Ship is a Lateen sailed Dhow. Looks like in North Africa maybe? His wiki entry says he was inspired to paint maritime imagery from a visit to Africa where he stopped at a number of ports and made sketches.

It's plausible you may have an early original. He didn't emigrate (initially to Canada) until 1957 and had been a professional artist in the UK for a few years already so some of those works may still be lurking in houses waiting to be discovered.

It appears to be in oil on canvas, you can just see the weave along the bottom right, you should be able to feel the impasto of the paint if you run your fingers over it, the clouds in the top right look like a good place. If it's flat and smooth it's likely a print or lithograph.

Beyond that you would then probably need to take it for appraisal to determine if it's authentic or even the same Stobart. Might be worth it though the originals look like they can go for upto and beyond 100k, one was $550k when he was still alive! Early works can be more coveted by collectors than better know later ones....
