Need to extend my network, I need to get a wired ethernet connection in the garage for cctv stuff, Problem is Garage 60m away from house and no wifi signal will get outside of house walls yes they are thick. Would also like it to be stronger wifi outside so can use laptop and phone whilst in workshop. Also cant get external aerial into router built in aerial.
So thoughts are repeater with exterior directional aerial pointing to garage another Aerial collecting signal then into a wired gateway?

Does that sound reasonable? Will I be able to connect to the repeater with my phone and laptop wirlessly and still be using the gateway for cctv?
Are these units that send signal up power cables any good and could them be used instead of aerials but still get wifi in garage?

I haven't a clue on these things so any silly mistakes dont be shy to point them out.

wireless access point/bridge or use some home plugs

they turn any ring main in to a network

saves wireless and saves the wired bit for CCTV

pop into chat if you want a natter

I have a Netgear Wireless access point that I can configure (using another one) as a wireless bridge . . . . Although I have no problem with the 30m run from my roof to the shed

I live in a caravan about 40 meters away from the house and i now use the gadget that plugs into the power socket rather than the repeater and it works much better :thumb:

Thanks Eggman :thumb: I have now ordered my plugs and wireless router for the garage. Will let you know the outcome.

Eggman , I never thought of that ! I was living in a caravan about 50M from the house and buggered around endlessy with USB boosters and ariels for wi fi and all sorts....shopuld have just gone on the power line . I think the fact it was a 32A extension cable threw me , I subconciously assumed that one need to be in the ring , as it were . Just how far does this type of system extend ? What stops it ? The RCD or ELCB main switch ? Why doesnt it extend back into the grid to your neighbours ? Why ? How ? I am off to google this ! I hate it when I dont understand......hence , I hate large parts of life !

Yeah i was always having to go back down the house because the other router has crashed or frozen up, i'm sorry i can't explain how it works i'm a dunce with technology
They're not cheap but its so much better than it was before. I plug my router into the gizmo that goes into the mains and there's another one down the house, i then have a good wifi connection or i can also hardwire straight into the router.
My biggest problem is that i'm rural where i am and a long way from the exchange so my broadband speed's not the quickest, but hey i live in a caravan in a field and i've got a wifi connection so could be worse :)

Hey ! Dont apologise mate ! You have just opened up a whole new lot of possibilities to me - thank you ! I have been off reading up on it , getting to grips....slowly....but , whatever , nice one , pal ! :thumb:
