Like Mumfords first album disappointed with second.

first = Sigh No More
second = Babel?

Listened to Sigh No More earlier, going through Babel now. Prefer it I think... a bit more raucous which I always think is a good thing for folk...

edit you will have to wait a couple of minutes for the madness. :whistle: :whistle:

Just remembered another in a similar vein to Mumford and sons, Johnny Flynn.

If you like eastern european traditional folk mixed with Manchesters finest (the smiths) listen to The Ukrainians There version of Meat is Murder is fantastic as well.

I love the trad Planxty, Christy Moore, Ossian, Bert Jansch. Hmm, new stuff check out Flook, not that new now I suppose but very good. If you like Django style cafe jazz look up Andreas Oberg, he's amazing, US folk try Rag Mama Rag, Truckstop Honeymoon, bit of Eastern European try Fianna... All worth a look..

Resurrecting this thread on account of being introduced, thanks to the Radio 2 Folk Awards, to The Full English project and the collaboration that produced the self-titled album last year.

If you do lean a bit to the folksy side and you haven't heard it, get onto Spotify and search for The Full English.

I would very gladly sit with copious quantities of good beer and good company and listen to this music (preferably live!) for hours and hours. Exceptional. Just "Wow".

As a musician (A Bad One . . . but still)

Spotify will kill music even more than home taping

I saw a great rant by Frank Gambale explaining that these online streaming sites pay Eff All to the artists, so they are all withdrawing their music . . . If the artists don't get decent royalities then why should they produce music for you to listen to . . .in the end all we'll get is boy/girl bands produced en mass from cowell and his cronies . . . and I'd rather listen to folk that any of that ***** . . .and I'd rather put my head through a mincer than listen to folk :D

Nikolo Kotzev (of Brazen Abbot) produce a superb rock opera (Nostradamus), that was to fund another project (Draconia - the story of Sigimund and Grendel), but because of copying and streaming he didn't raise enough to finish it . . . and the CD is out of stock at Amazon . . . I think I bought the last copy . . .

<Rant Over>

Really? Artists' streaming revenues have (or so it is reported) been increasing faster than the decrease in revenues from physical sales and download sales continue to rise steadily.

Take for example couple of moans I found quoted on the beeb.

Royalty payments of £179.70 for 72800 streams and £9.48 for 4030 streams.

Average artist royalty for an £8.00 CD is £1.04. Are these people suggesting that these streams accounted for reduction in their physical sales capacity of 173 and 9 CDs respectively?

I very much doubt it.

Who should you be listening to? Well, How about June Tabor (nice little story in this one) :D

The Full English seemed to sweep the board at the recent awards show I was listening to.
Personally I haven't even heard of them before, but may be worth looking into?
