BB

Ive just met someone who has just done that....Theyve bought a micro brewery....only trouble is...they know absolutley bugger all about brewing beer, not HB, not commercially, nothing, zilch.

Yup that makes sound commercial sense :wha: :wha:

:nono: :nono:

More money than sense perhaps.

Definatly...They came around to my house this morning and we had a few samples of different beers that Ive got and they both said "we dont actually like beer", but weve bought all this equipment (med sized micro, by the sound) and weve got a commercial premises where they can brew.

Outlets...I asked
"Weve got that sorted" they replied
"What type of beer do you want to sell and how many pints do you think you can sell"
" No idea" they replied
" EHO, Customs and Revenue, marketing, recipes ?????????????????????"

Oh well the obviously have a market for it its just a small mater of making it then

They have been gone about a hour ago, and Im still chuckling to myself. The worrying thing about it is that they are deadly serious.
"our solictor is on the case re. legallity. Weve contacted the EHO. Were prepared to spend some money in setting up production correctly, etc, etc etc,

Get paid by them as a "consultant" they obviously have more money than sense!

you get to play with somebody else's money and make beer! result :thumb:

Claim recipe rights and get paid comission on every pint sold

my mate works in marketing and came round to see a brew, he went home gushing about "going big", "we could" yeah yeah whatever :nah:

It's my hobby and I enjoy it as such, I have no illusions of the work involved for guys like UnclePumble etc who are brave enough to go commercial.
The sad thing is that due to recent press reports about the growth of microbreweries ,people who have no real interest in brewing see it as the new quick buck, when they fail and they leave people with a bad taste in their mouths about "craft Brewing" it will tarnish our hobby.

A bit like when plumbers were earning £60K a year and after a 5 week course you can too!

Sorry for the ramble, if it was easy we'd all be doing it! ;)

That is exactly what they suggested "consultant"
Unfortunatly...you cant copyright a recipe
"Pints Sold" With their business accumen, it aint going far

Seriously if your happy to consult and they are happy picking up the tab then why not?

You get to make beer without any financial risk to yourself.

If you have the time available and feel they will treat you fairly go for it.

It could work out well for you, if it fails all you have lost is a bit of brewing pride.

After all you may pick up some cheap equipment if it fails ;)

Just had a text message.....Quote "we enjoyed our conversation, this morning...and we have decided to take your advice and would like to offer you a position as "consulant"
WTF ????
I am as yet, to reply

Again Baldbrewer, youve summed it up.
A, I dont have the time
B, Its down to pride..I brew my beers to suit me, not the paying public.

I knew when they came around this morning that I "sold" myself too much and this is all they were interested in.

I'll do consultancy for them . . . 750 quid per day plus expenses!
