I think it works well as an Antivirus and if Putin wants to snoop on my PC he's going to be very bored.

Been using Windows Defender (or whatever they're calling the AV built into Windows) for many years. Never had an issue or virus (tempts fate). First up all my home IT is behind a NAT router which in itself gives quite a bit of protection. Secondly I won't click on anything that looks remotely dodgy - email attachments / links, websites, downloads etc. I feel the latter is perhaps why some people might need more intrusive AV as they think they can happily click on anything without considering the consequences. We use M$ for our virus / malware protection at work now (System Center Endpoint Protection), admittedly this is an enterprise level solution but I work for a very large blue chip company who's very paranoid about protecting their intellectual property and take this sort of stuff very seriously. If it's good enough for them! We used McAfee before going completely M$ and it was woeful.

I've been working around PCs for 30 odd years so have a fair idea about them 😉

That said now my 9 year old is getting a bit more click happy on the web I might need to keep a closer eye (or get him a Chromebook!).

Common sense one of the best antiviruses out there its a shame some people lack it. :laugh8:

It's antivirus renewal time for me. I've got McAfee atm, but they want to double the price (I've disabled auto renew). So what's everyone using? I'm not sure if I trust windows defender, although it's free, and I've had norton before and found it a bit too invasive although it could be better now.
I have 14 days to make up my mind.
Hi

Had this problem for quite a few years but "solved" it using local PC Shop initially and then Currys / Dixons and for the last 2 years Argos

I look for whatever McAfee product I am running and then buy the same from the above retailers at a fraction of the cost. I have paid just £15 this year for Total 3 Devices I think it was. That saves masses of money over their "bargain" offers

Used to be a CD BUT all I get now is an official McAfee Folder with a scratch panel and an impossibly long Serial Number. Log in to your Account - enter the Number and bingo - protection for another year. I accept "Auto renew" and a month later or so I go back end delete it

Easy - hope this helps you

I use Bitdefender and have done for years. Doesn't seem to slow my system down and is relatively unobtrusive.

I never pay for the renewal price though and always buy a genuine code from eBay. You can provide the same with most of the other vendors and get it cheaper off eBay.

Kaspersky, unobtrusive fast and £5 a year
I've used Kaspersky for a number of years, with no problems, although not sure haw you can get it for just £5.

I wouldn't say that I visit dodgy sites, but I do stream football matches at times and it deals with the pop-ups etc. I wouldn't risk it without.
