Hi All

I started my 1st Pear cider kit a few days ago and now its ready to go into my sparkling new Pressure barrel.
The instructions says," Prime the Barrel with Sugar to a maximum of 85g".

1st Question, How do you dissolve Granulated sugar to add to the barrel or is it a case of lobbing it in. ?
2nd Question Would it be ok to use "Brewing Sugar" (I used Granulated Sugar for fermentation) to prime due to it mixing easily. ?

Thanks
Phil

Dissolve the sugar in cooled boiled water, pour the syrup in the barrel first followed by the cider.

Brewing sugar is fine to use for priming.

You won't get much fizz from a barrel conditioned cider, as it doesn't hold as much pressure as say bottling would. But if that's what you're after then its all good!

Hi there, The best way is to dissolve the sugar in a small amount of water by heating it and boiling for a few minutes. Then you want to cool it down before you add it to the PB followed by the cider, this so the heat doesn't damage the yeast.
Yes its ok to use brewing sugar to prime you may require a little more than for granulated, it depends on the amount of solids contained in the alternative sugar(s). In fact you can use pretty any type of sugar from Honey to Molasses/treacle.
