Greetings gang :D another newcomer to your forum :!:

Returning to brewing my own after a long break

Live in a small village just outside Kendal on the Cumbria/Lancashire border, although a Lancastrian by birth :thumb: ( that'll upset them Yorkies from over the hill )

after brewing some very gluggable and get drunkable beers back in the early 70's :drink: now retired and a bit more sense :wha: decided to have another dabble at brewing my own

don't intend to go the whole hog just yet and set up a micro brewery  although I have the room these days  just go part way and start with a kit or two (they seem to have come on a bit  ) where I can mash a bit and add a few bits 'n pieces and produce a decent bottle or three

got a nice new FV and some odds and ends of equipment that isn't lying around Mrs C's kitchen  intend to bottle rather than barrel the results :!:

had a run down to a brew shop yesterday and got a Brewers Choice IPA kit to start with and see how I go  like the idea of the 't-bag' system, appeals more to my 'this is a bit more like the real thing' side  although still some way off

I'm sure I'll have a few questions as I go and I'll try and post some helpful hints, if I discover anything :!: although with a well established forum such as this I don't think I'll discover much that isn't already here somewhere :!: Hopefully I'll not be too much of a pain asking for advice  so here we go, first brew in the FV and on my way  :thumb:

Hi buddy, don't know about the Appleby shop sorry  'tother end of county  would like to know what you think of shop if you're calling in and don't mind please :?: we seem a bit in short supply round here, but there again I'm newly back to this game so there might be a little gem or two not far from me that I didn't know about  I'm not far from Kendal :thumb:

Welcome to the Forum BC, there are quite a few us who have returned to HB after a lengthy break.

Hi Baz, Another from Cumbria, well sort of! I have found it very difficult to find a good local shop. i have had mixed results with online shopping. depends on where you buy from, some sites are great, while others are well below parr. I have an order outstanding that I placed over 6 weeks ago now. I started with the traditional kits, but have now moved over to the Brewers choice. I have 2 in the Fv now.

It is my intention to try AG in the end, but i dont have a lot of space and im slowly converting what little room I have to accommodate.

it would be nice to hear how your first brew gets on.

BTW Welcome

Thanks gang ...

Bob, Murrays on Duke St Barrow used to be fairly good for HB kits, it's a year or three since I was in there last but might be worth your while sticking your head round the door :thumb:

As for first brew, just put a thread on re My First (return) Brew :D

Have you tried the http://www.thethriftyshopper.co.uk/ - they do FREE postage on all orders over £25 - so usually a kit plus maybe some caps, or finings, - you get the idea :thumb:

They also have so far proven very good on customer service - called me when there was a problem with an order, bent over backwards to sort it, and posted items separately at no extra cost to me :drink:

The caveat to that is I am only on my 2nd order with them, but so far, so good :drink:

Cheers Bob, might call in when I'm 'round the corner' sometime :thumb:
