Hello ladies and gents,

The last time I tried brewing I was a teenager *cough, cough* years ago and have just started again.

I've got a batch of Smugglers Special brewing now which is due to be bottled on Friday.

Unfortunately I got the brew on right in the middle of the hot spell so it got a bit warm and it's not tasting magnificent at the moment. Time will tell how it pans out...

I read the John Palmer book before embarking on this little venture but wish I'd found this forum too - I've already picked up loads of handy hints for the next one.

Anyway, good to be here and I'm looking forward to joining in the shenanigans.

Welcome to the forum. I have made loads of wine but am about to embark on the beer route so soaking up as much info as i can. Great friendly group to be a part of.
 
Welcome aboard Fro, I'm sure your beer will be fine after a little while in the bottle, it's very forgiving. Get planning that next brew.

Already on it. ;) I've got a Brupaks Birkby kit ready and waiting although having read Clibit's simple AG thread I'm eager to give that a go!

One thing I hadn't thought of beforehand was the agony of cleaning and de-labelling 40 bottles...
 
Howdy. As for bottles... only bother with labels that readily come away in hot water...leave the plastic or foil types on..not worth the effort!

Yeah, I know. The bloke in the shop said not to fit them as it's not a gas tight lid...

I've got some now for the next brew.

My brew instructor said: if you need a blow off tube, it's just too full.
Since then I leave 25% head space, and never had problems again.
Odds are you used a yeast that can stand temps of around 23ºC, not a pitiful lager yeast that faints above 18º. It'll be okay, give it time.
Haven't read the Palmer book but the reputation is solid :thumb:
