is something happening here? or am i just over-reacting?

Did you have a look at the brew a couple of days ago ? It would have had a large froth/crust on top, just like the head on a pint. What's left on the sides is just the residue from that crust.

Yes, perfectly normal, if it didn't have that then you might want to worry as it would suggest no fermentation was happening.

As it is, that looks perfectly healthy

Nothing at all to worry about, like everyone has said.

What you have actually got there is a mixture of dead yeast, hop resins and various proteins that clump together and often glue themselves to the side of your fermenter. Try to avoid stirring it back into the beer as it can be very bitter or harsh in taste. Leave it glued to the side.

You'll get used to it - some brews seem to produce hardly any - sometimes you'll see a bit like a scum ring around the bath if you've been doing a particularly mucky, oily job - but sometimes there is absolutely stacks of it.
