Similarly, if we go out and you have 6 pints and I have 5 pints and finish with a half, then I've had fewer pints and less beer than you but I haven't had fewer drinks.

Good thinking AA; I'll ponder this a bit more but your logic and reasoning seems good. However, if we had had 6 pints and 5½ pints respectively, would we have been able to keep a reliable tally?
