Does anyone here brew any old recipes, not necessarily anglo-saxon ones?

I'm interested in giving it a go and I'm reading up on it.

Obviously it was more of an art than a science, and I'd like to try brewing in this way (of course it may take a little trial and error).

I've found a few recipes to have a bash at but I wouldn't mind aquiring a bit of advice from people who have had a go themselves.

Thanks for all your help, Duncs I think that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. How did yours turn out?

Did you find the recipes some place or did you just use some imagination?

It turned out much better than I expected, much more like beer than I thought it would. with a herb after-taste, I think it'd go well with a herby stew at this time of year. I carbonated mine, but I assume that wasn't the traditional style.

I made the recipe up from a bit of research into what went in to a gruit and what herbs I could easily get hold of. There's some more recipes here
