Roads around here are litter-strewn so i hope the £80 fixed penalty makes them think twice next time although they will probably just make sure the receipt is not in the bag.

This is one of my pet hates. I've seen enough morons throwing rubbish out of car windows, when a bin is a few yards away.

I'm not bothered about fining such people. Fines effect different people in different ways and they lack equality. I'd rather they suffer some old fashioned humiliation, like doing some time doing community service, like civic center pavement gum cleaning or some other public service. I'd also make them wear bright yellow jump suits, saying in big letters "I'm a littering idiot".

I agree and make them do it with a teaspoon.

Its got so bad they are installing these so lazy truck drivers don't throw their litter out of the window.

Edit to add - Not all truck drivers litter the roads.

It's the same around here, a lovely part of rural Yorkshire spoilt by fly tippers and pasty faced teenage troglodytes in their souped-out clapped-up Vauxhall Corsa's with exhausts like coal scuttles chucking litter out as they thrash around the countryside. I have often stopped and picked it up, bloody disgrace they should be ashamed :( Disclaimer.... Not all litter louts are teenage

This is one of the first things I ever noticed about living in Sheffield. You are almost always in sight of a bin. Makes such a big difference. Growing up in Chelmsford there were never bins about which does have a knock on effect that people drop litter.

Obviously they shouldn't and its terrible, but it is good to see that bins do help.
