Can any recommend an alternative to bottled Ashbec water from tescos. It’s been my go to for IPAs and pale ales (which is 90 per cent of what I brew) for ever but I can’t seem to get any over here in Belfast at the moment. Essentially a soft water brand for pale ales is what I’m after.

tap water is not only hard it tastes awful so looking for best supermarket alteranative!

cheers.

When I was in Poole, I used rainwater (fresh, not from a butt) which I collected from the roof by drilling a hole in the gutter. I used this for Pilsners as the mains water wasn't too bad for bitters and pales. You'd need to add salts to it.

I had a look at this issue a while back, when Tesco ditched Ashbeck for Elmhurst. I had previously used one of Asda'a own brands, but looking on their website, they only sell Elmhurst now.

If you have an aquarium or pond equipment supplier nearby, see if they sell RO water.

Cheers some things to look Into there, although I don’t think i will go the drilling holes into my gutter route😁

im hoping it’s short term along with plenty of other stuff thats not getting over the water at the moment. My wife gets The tescos deliverEd and it’s so handy just to add it to that when needed.

From old notes I notice I put down a bicarbonate rate of 80, although I don’t know how I got that from my water report Water quality results - Northern Ireland Water . Doesn’t seem to mention it.

next brew has a load of Munich in it but no Crystal or anything so not sure whether to risk it and use tap water, boil it first and a Camden tab and push ahead?
