All aboard the chocolate train

Ok so here's today's brew. Missus is in the bath and engrossed in something called mob wives. I don't ask questions.

So here it is, the smoky chocolate express.

1.5kg brewmasters Irish velvet stout kit
.5kg light DME (only thing I had)
1kg demerera sugar
.125kg smoked malt
.4kg crushed barley
.5kg chocolate malt

BIAB in a big pan.

3litres of mash water for the grains. For an hour.

Sparged with quite a bit of water. 6 litres I think because the refractometer told me there was still sugar!

Just chucked some styrian goldings 25g in. So just about to decide what to put in next.

So....

It was savinjski goldings first 25g, followed by styrian goldings and styrian cascade for last 20 mins. Both 25g so that's all of those used up from the geterbrewed hops.

Fished the bags out and boiled some water just to get the last of the hoppy goodness out. ;-)

I'm undecided how to run a competition for this one. Gravity readings or the best name for the beer. I would think it were somewhere in the Smokey railway section ;-) for those who have tasted it .

Oh it was 15 litres in the end topped up to 24 ish to compensate for grain bits and trub.

Maybe grav readings and a name? Closest wins a bottle and maybe a second one for another user who comes up with a brilliant name :-)

For the name, how about "Primus Smokebox", after the smokebox on the 0-4-2WT Primus locomotive, which, like the beer (presumably), was made in Birmingham (Bellis and Seeking, Broad Street).

Nice answer, I work in an industry that also makes scale models. We have a mold for that particular train. :-)
