Hi All,

After looking around the web for a recipe to make this I can't find anything conclusive.

I have 4 Fl Oz bottle of Zatarains Root Beer Extract which states on the bottle that it would make 5 gallons ... however I'm wanting to make an alcoholic version.

Does anyone have and recipies / ideas on making a batch up ???

Shame to see there's no reply to this one. It sounds like a grand plan.
Where did you get the extract from?

Can't stand the stuff myself but my American wife adores it. Would be curious to also know where you got it and how you get on. This could finally convince my other half of he merits of home brewing! :D

I got it from eBay of all places ... just want to use it now.

The main problem is that with Root Beer you're to let it ferment for only a day .. so the genuine stuff has a trace of alchohol ... but where's the fun in that. There must someone out there inHomebrew land who's done it before.

I love the stuff too ... Childhood memories of McD's selling it ...

How about using the turbo vimto recipe but using the root beer instead of vimto. Sounds interesting tho.

Neil

You could make up the 'alcoholic water' stuff (thread on here somewhere) then add concentrate to that. Would love to get hold of root beer concentrate and sarsaparilla?? too.

I was looking at the Vimto TC recipe ... and all I'd need to really look at was the difference in sugar and water .... however, as you mentioned screamlead the idea of alcoholic water with the extract added does sound good.

I've had a look and can't find anything relating to it ... but would I be right in thinking that if I do the following we might get somewhere with this :-

4.75 litres water
stong cup of black tea (2 tea bags steeped)
2.5kg (ish) sugar
citric acid
yeast nutrient
cider yeast
Root Beer Extract
sweetner to taste ?? (splenda) Post 1st fermentation

What are your thoughts / suggestions please ??

Just found this post and wondered if you made it and if it was any good as I fancy making it myself?
