since starting homebrewing i have had to question my reasons for starting to do this hobby!

now i was put in an isolated place of am i becoming diseased or is it teaching me not to go there?

my answer is simple had i not started homebrewing my liver would probably be being looked at in years to come by some mortician saying ( whoooo0 this boy liked a drink)......

it has taught me to respect my body and respect how these chemicals interact with my body!

then i .........................................woke up!........ **** it lets get smashed and alot cheaper too.........         :thumb:

Working in a commercial brewery actually cut the amount of beer I used to drink dramatically  . . . I drink a little more now but not a lot, and could quite happily live without alcohol . . . I can also go to a pub have a sip of beer and then not have any more all night . . . so not an alcoholic in my case

Well I like a drink the same as the next bloke but being a trucker I dont really bother in the week the occasional pint or 2 you know on the other hand I can shift a few when the mood takes me so I can take it or leave it Myself

i love a beer or four - alcoholism is more about dependance then quantity, i don`t have a drink before i go to work but enjoy a home made pint in the evening, you raise an interesting point though I as probably many others drink more than the reccomended amounts .

However if i was on a desert island with no means of escape producing alcohol would be high up on the list of things to do

imagine if that happened and you had to make alcohol on a desert island. You'd probably have to ferment coconuts.. but I heard that can make you coco loco  :P

Not alcoholic for me. I love my beer and wine but sometimes just get fed up of drinking it.
I will happily go 3 or 4 weeks without a drink when it has started to bore me.
I can however drink far too much when the mood takes me. I don't mean in one sitting, I mean averaging 4 or 5 pints a night for a week...which is too much....for me.
I never get legless as I don't like to feel out of control, and I really annoy myself (and probably others) when I start to get drunk

only just found this thread :drunk: :drunk:

Whats the question? :wha: :drunk:

edit...look after your health, but also make sure you have a good life while you are here, and make sure you give those around you the best of you. Thats a good balance, isn't it?

Well I make it a point only ever to drink on days which end with a ‘y’.

Although I like a drink I don't think I actually need a drink, it can often be quite late into the evening (9 - 10pm) before I get one and I can occasionally take a night off if I choose. That must have happened at least twice last year.

Even so, I don't drink to get drunk, I think I had two beers and a double (possibly treble) Scotch last night over a 5 hour period.

Hi, my name is Rob and I'm an alcoholic.

Like someone said its all about dependency. I dont depend on alcohol to "get me through the day" but I do drink a lot, too much I would admit. I like to savour each mouthful, it isn't about getting drunk. ..well not all the time any way. It is the enjoyment I get from flavours of beers that makes me drink more of them. If I needed to get drunk I'd get on the special brew and vodka.

5014 pints of beer and 31.5 Pints of Turbo cider brewed in 2009. :hmm:

I bet there's no slugs in your garden Aleman ;)

4900 of those pints was ONE brew at a commercial brewery ;)

clicky

The amount I drink varies nightly, just as often zero pints as four in front of the telly, or eight at a good real ale pub, or maybe just one to wind down. All I can say for sure is that I have far too many bottles in the cellar!

Same here. On weekday's I might have 2 - 3 pints, mostly 2, at weekends I might have 5 on a Friday and 5 Saturday. I don't see this as a problem, wife sez it is.

I could go to the snooker club and drink water all night, it would not bother me...

I get pleasure out of brewing beers when friends and family tell me how nice it is! :thumb:

I'm not a fan of strong beers (well, anything over 6%).
One of the reasons I started brewing my own was that I can control the alcohol content.

This means that I can have a great tasting pint (cough) or several if I choose a low alcohol brew.

:hmm: In may case I'll say not :thumb:
I do have a couple of pints nearly every night and like tonight I'll have a shed load at a beer festival :drink:
From those that have seen my brewday posts I brew mainly low gravity session beers due to health considerations (Diabetes), so that I can continue with a mainly healthy food and drink intake :wha:
With the amount of beer wine and cider I have on the go at the moment if I was an alcoholic I'd be a happy one

I've just brewed a 2.7% beer.... although only by accident.

In my case I would say no :nono:
. I only drink on a Friday, Saturday and a Sunday and then it’s after 7 o’clock when my daughter’s are in bed.
I do like a drink yes and sometimes I drink too much to quickly and I get a little bit ******.

A **** artist is not necessesarily an alcoholic, though SH(TS)MBO thinks they are one and the same.
Those who say that alcoholics are dependent on it are close to the mark, it is in fact total addiction.
I unfortunately have had experience of it, not my own, and it is a terrible thing.

Agree with Ev

I've seen it close up too, not pretty :(

I brew a fair amount during the year and have friends around to help drink what I brew, But TBH I go weeks with out drinking alcohol, then I like others may have a cpl a night for a while, Personally I can take it or leave it recently I have hardly drunk much at all may be 20 pints in the past 5 months or so.
