Can I just jump back into this please and ask if people keep the lid on their air lock or off (Open)?

Seen it both ways but don't if it actually matters.

I leave mine on because I have one. If I lost the lid tomorrow, I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

If its one of these keep it on its there to keep nasties and dust etc out of the airlock -

It's entirely up to you.
In 30 odd years of brewing I don't think I've really bothered.
They are usually lost by the time I come to use it the second time.

Provided it's fermenting, nothing can get in anyway.
It's not sufficient to stop any bacteria, so the worst that could happen is a fly might get in it, and it would not only have to be a strong swimmer, but to be able to hold it's breath and suvive in an oxygen deficient envronment.
