good luck pal! You may find brewing with the maxi biab method (nice and full, more grain than usually required, sparging) and then topping up may yield a better result in the future if you are low on space. :

Taking too long to get to the boil so I have tested my 2nd element, all electrics are still on and no fires so I think its working :)

I take it I dont add the hops until I actually get to the boil?

1st hops in & boiling away lovley on 1 element :)

I'd just boil what you have any dilute it back up later if you need to using formula I always bang on about:

Actual gravity/ target gravity * volume = diluted volume

Diluted volume - volume = how much to add to get target gravity

For the numbers make life easy and use 50 rather than 1.050

Some people have hops in from the start (first wort hops) I usually put first lot in with 60 mins to go, which is a pretty standard approach.

I said no such thing :p

the result of not using as much water in this brew would result in a lower batch size at least, but you may be able to get a full batch size with good efficiency using Maxi :)

That works for me although just recently I have left in boiler overnight and transferred the next day. If you put the lid on it sterilises itself. You will now get loads of people telling you about the benefits of wort coolers. To be fair if I had one I'd use it but my beer is alright without one.

A cooler is on my todo list, going with bath full of cold water and plastic bottles of ice in the bath for today.

Looks like I have 18L of wort from this batch.
