Hi all :) I'd like to find out haw to increase the alcohol volume in my AG ale, if it's the sugar or the grain I have increase, what volume increase do I have to add to go up 1% alcohol at a time :hmm: .
Thanks

Hi Tricky, you would need to add about 20g sugar per litre to get a 1% rise. However, that's only going to give a stronger but thinner brew. You would be better off increasing the grain or decreasing the brew length to get a higher OG. Sorry, I can't quantify that.

hi,
use the calculators and the recipes pages to play around with quantities. See the top left of the page.

In theory malts and adjuncts will give you 30 degs per lb per gal or 300 degs per kg per ltr.
If you reckon on 75 to 80% efficiency you wont be a million miles out!
Crystal malt gives 24 degs per lb per gal or 240 degs per kg per ltr, normally 90+% efficient.
