Hello!

I had a go at brewing my first IPA on Saturday. I came up with the recipe myself and having never brewed an IPA in the past I had no idea what malts to include. Anyway, on with the pictures and recipe - I really have no idea how it'll turn out!

I pitched the yeast and it went mental after a good 13 hours. I didn't make a starter but I definitely will next time. The lag time worried me!

well done :thumb: what does Y Ddraig Haf mean :wha:

I've just used WLP004 in a stout; you should get some good fruity flavours, and yes it is a bit mental

Ideally for 23L of a beer at OG1062 you would want to make a starter with 1 vial of yeast in a 3L starter

It means summer dragon in welsh. Loving the name, nice to see the mother tongue being used.

Looks like a good brew too

Will, you're spot on. I'm a born again welsh speaker. My other half speaks welsh as a first language I, however, never bothered to learn it in school but I've found a renewed enthusiasm so I've been taking welsh lessons. Hopefully I'll be fluent one day.

Just a quick question; if I were to brew something similar or the same recipe again, could I just drop the wort onto the trub or would I need to wash the yeast etc?

James

I have the advantage of having been in welsh school from 3-18, sadly not as fluent as I on e was, not many welsh speakers where I work. It's always nice to see someone with a passion for any language they are learning.

I'm a Newport boy living in Brizzle.

Missed out on Welsh in School but I can follow the Rugby on S4C ;)

My last brew, a strong Wherry called Rucking Flanker was a great hit at Christmas :drunk:
