Hello!
I had a go at brewing my first IPA on Saturday. I came up with the recipe myself and having never brewed an IPA in the past I had no idea what malts to include. Anyway, on with the pictures and recipe - I really have no idea how it'll turn out!
Y Ddraig Haf (English IPA)
Original Gravity (OG): 1.062 (°P): 15.2
Final Gravity (FG): 1.016 (°P): 4.1
Alcohol (ABV): 6.09 %
Colour (SRM): 11.3 (EBC): 22.3
Bitterness (IBU): 50.9 (Average)
84.4% Pale Malt
9.37% Caramalt
3.16% Crystal 120
3.07% Flaked Barley
3.7 g/L Fuggles (4.8% Alpha) @ 90 Minutes (Boil)
1.1 g/L Bramling Cross (6.5% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)
Single step Infusion at 66°C for 90 Minutes. Boil for 90 Minutes
Fermented at 20°C with WLP004 - Irish Ale
Recipe Generated with BrewMate
The grist
Mash
Holding its temperature well
Sparge
Fly sparge...
Cooling the wort
Lots of break material and hops
Aerating the wort
Gravity came out with a corrective reading of 1058.
I pitched the yeast and it went mental after a good 13 hours. I didn't make a starter but I definitely will next time. The lag time worried me!
