after a few holdbacks I've started the above brew this morning.
As stated its a Sarah Hughes Mild from Graham Wheelers book
Described as a dark ruby strong ale at 5.7%
Only difference is due to concerns re my boiler I'm doing a 60 min boil ( more if I'm lucky )
Pics to follow later
Hit 67C on mash temperature and its now down to waiting on its first one hour batch sparge.
Coffee time.

cant be any worse an experience than the first brew ! :D
But things seem nice and relaxed today, I was suffering from a bit of the " old mans problem " last brew  which didn't make for a comfortable day.

wort collected 31 litres just cooling a sample to toke gravity reading.

Yet another lesson learned............collect your wort in a bucket that has no tap fitted ! 3 litres over the floor when the tap assembly popped out ! :?

Well apart from that all sounds good.
I bet it's going much more smothly than AG#1?

Well its done.
Brew went a lot better than No.1 ha ha
Still had problems with my false bottom ( the other clip came loose this time ! so again I had a lot of problems getting clear runnings I need a further stainless steel jubilee clip to hold it...again my silly fault.
Then I lost about 4 litres after a tap popped out while collecting the wort...anyone want some soggy sticky slippers !
Then onto the boil....After my previous problems with the boiler and many thanks to the electricians out there who helped...the boil was perfect no sign of it cutting out. Hop socks were hung in on time ( no hop strainer fitted as yet ) and I remembered the protoflock half tablet...
Its now chilling and I'm resting my poor feet..
Even managed some pictures this time

Looks like a succesful brew day. It is a good recipe too so should make you an excellent batch of beer.

just think how easy the next brew day will be.

I said that last time.... :D

well as was expected I am well down on the gravity. I ended up with 23 litres at 1.042 instead of 1.058... not good.
Has anyone ever made a session drinking Sarah Hughes... :D by my calculations its going to come out around 4.2 to 4.5%
So back to the drawing board for brew No.3 ! have to get this mashing sorted out

Oh please please, another clip would be very much appreciated.

Is it ok to have a false bottom just laid on the floor of the mash tun, or does it need to be raised a little by something like a split ring of tubing ?
