So my first adventure away from kits.

I chose to do a tribute clone as my first AG as I thought i would have enough to worry about on the day that i didnt want the recipe to be another factor, so i bought a pre weighed out AG pack which contained:

The day seemed to go ok just glad the SWMbO was out all day as i flooded the kitchen on multiple occasions, mianly due to a leaky bodge job wort chiller, i think i need to look at soldering on adapters instead of relying on jubilee clips and sealant.

the other main problem i had was my pot was so bit it took up the whole stove but wasnt so big it covered the the whole of the burners so it felt a lot of heat was wasted, so i think i may but a gas burner or may add some kettle elements to it.

looking forward to the next one, thanks for the help in getting me this far guys

Great job. Let us know how this turns out. I'm quite tempted by this beer.

There is an interesting thread over on Jims about doing a Tribute clone. So far it's up to 375 posts!

I thought I would let everyone else do all the legwork before I give it a go ;-)

Thanks for all the comments guys

A little update after just over 2 days the krausen has completely disappeared, when i have done kits before it normally lasts a bit longer, is this normal?

grav reading currently at 1021 and smells amazing

There doesn't seem to be a 'normal' :) Sometimes massive Kruasen, sometimes almost none, sometimes going nuts after 7 days, sometimes all done on day 3. The whims of yeast and the many variables that lead to completely different experiences :)

It looks like it is working perfectly to me.

So bottled this today, tasted a bit strange to be honest, a bit like cheesey hops and taste was ok nothing special.

I hope it will improve with age, have hidden it away under a massive pile of empties for 6 weeks in hope that im just being too eager so time will tell

at least it looks the part

hmm, cheesey hops..i've herad about that before, but can't think where. oxidized hops? but i guess it can't be in a kit.

how'd you get on with your mash temps?

looks great, congrats on your first successful ag brew

Well i think the fact that its a kit could of added to this, as it must have been opened and then re weighed in to a certain amount and then sealed again so exposing it to more oxygen ?

But im just guessing

Mash temp i was really impressed how well it held its temp heated the water to 70 then after adding the grain it went down to 68 then after the 90 mins it was at 65.8, so i think that was ok, more luck then judgement though :D

tasted a bit strange to be honest...
Just leave it for a few months and it will transform itself. I've got some beer I made back in June which is only now starting to taste really good.
