Finally the Cherry popped!

After a couple of months of researce and building it has finally happened. Thanks to all who offered advise and to this Forum, without this help I would still be using Extract.

A few glitches, starting with a duff Digital Thermometer, it was working 2 days ago. the other glitch will be mentioned at a later stage.

Apologies for the mixture of Farenheit & Celcuis, had to improvise with a jam thermometer and a normal glass brewing one. One was °F the other °C.

Tucked up in fermentation cabinet

Pitched with S-04 straight from the packet.

First attempt to fit FV in fermentation cabinet failed, too big. I had checked it earlier, but had added a tap which fouled the door. Solution, use the secondary FV which was taller and thinner, but a smaller capacity. The wort was near the top of the FV, just hoping for a gentle ferment, fingures crossed.

Modification on the 'to do list' to make the primary FV to fit in the fridge cabinet ready for AG#2. :hmm:

The day went well, apart from the few problems which could be put down to teathing problems.

Met the target Mash temperature @ 66°C, mashed out at 62°C after 1½ hours with no extra insulation.

OG of 1035, spot on for recipe, after topping up volume up to 25 litres with pre-boiled water.

Roll on AG#2 a Dark Mild

Sterling work on your first brew, wish mine had gone as easy as yours seems to have done.
Great photo shoot too.

Took me all day to do it though, finished the cleaning up at 8:00pm, started at 10:30am, with a head start with the HLT on at 8:00am before my usual morning walk.

Had you got anything else planned for the day ?.... :D

It did come as a shock to me too, after being a kit maker. Of course now I realise that you have to set a day aside for it. Its no good trying to brew your beer and running about fetching and carrying for all.

Must remember to keep my camping stool handy.....it's such hard work dear.

The day has gone, it was yesterday. Taken me a while to post in between work, I work at home, brew days are my day off.

No need for the camping stool, I brew in the kitchen/dining room, nice easy chair for me

The length of day was also a shock to me, as an extract brewer it was all over, cleaned up and fermenting within 2 hours.
