OK, today's the day. My first AG brew. Tested all the equipment last night and everything seemed fine. Mash tun held temperature without any extra lagging, but sprung a leak, which I hope I have now sorted. The tap has dropped on the boiler a little, lifting the pick up on the inside when the plastic softened at boil. I will support the pipe when the bucket is soft today. So I think I am as ready as I am ever going to be. Any last minute tips?!

10:00am brew day started. Doing a partial boil to check pipework on mash tun. Propped tap on boiler, which has caused hop strainer to come off

Seems to do the trick.

Three tier.

Water just above strike temp of 79degC. Waiting for it to fall, then it begins!

I was really happy with the way everything went. Can't say it was trouble free. Ran out of hot liquor during the sparge and end up with less wort than the 31l target. After the boil I had about 19l against a target of 23l. My Hydrometer broke, it didn't like the hot water from the mash tun and sprung a leak, and I dropped my thermometer.

I checked it this morning and the yeasties seem quite happy in their new home.

Ah, the sweet, melodic sounds of an FV with the yeasties in full voice. A thousand notes, all of them in the key of gloop sharp.

Yesterday was my first AG too. I can't wait until next weekend to do it all again. I think I'm an AGaholic.
