Hi all,

After a few weeks of lurking and searching this forum for info I **THINK** I'm ready to made my first purchases. My list (from BrewUK) is below, is there anything I need to add or change? My 2 "concerns" are do I need another fermenting vessel besides the one of have with the tap and would I be better off using glucose for the Australian Lager kit rather than beer making sugar (I think I've seen this recommended in a old forum post)?

Coopers Australian Lager 40 Pts
PET Bottles 1 Litre Clear Carton (24) + Caps
25 Litre Fermentation Vessel and lid, fitted with Drum Tap
Saflager S-23 Yeast
Beer Paddle Plastic 16"
Brewing & Winemaking Sugar
Spraymalt Light
VWP Cleanser
Hydrometer
Little bottler

BTW thanks for all the advice/ opinions I've already been able to make use of on this forum!!!

Regards
Gaz

Coopers brews come with yeast & / or nutrient mate. I got 23 x 1L PET bottles from Tesco, their own energy drink got tipped away, £6.80 for 23. I have the same FV without a tap but a siphon instead, paddle?? Do you mean a long plastic spoon? I use normal sugar, haven't regretted it yet.. Rest look ok.. To me anyway, I'm still relatively new to it all myself. :thumb:

thermometer would come in handy to know when to pitch your yeast
it can be usefull to have a second FV for a/the next brew and b/ treating the water with a 1/2 campden tablet to kill the chlorine
and is glucose and beer sugar the same stuff?
yeast comes with the kit
good luck from 1 newbie to another

Cheers guys! Yep, the "beer paddle" is just a big spoon but I bought as I don't have one of those either :D !! Thanks for the tip on the bottles and thermometer, I'll look into that.

I bought the different yeast and the spraymalt as I found a forum post where these were mentioned as being more suitable for brewing lager than the stuff that comes with the kit? Can I do without them? Even if they only make the beer only marginally better they've only added a couple of quid to the total.....

I'll pop another fermenting vessel in the cart, I hadn't thought of either of those reasons!!

Thanks again,
Gaz

A second Fermenting vessel WILL come in handy :thumb:
You can use it for treating the water to dechlorinate, speaking of which you will need campden tablets/powder, or to use as a bottling bucket or to start another brew as mentioned above :thumb:
Brewing/winemaking sugar is glucose and I would recommend a 50:50 mix of brewing sugar and spraymalt for your lager kit.

as far as i know spray malt 500g and glucose 500g = beer enhancer 1kg these dont come with the kit these are what you can add instead of domestic white sugar and well worth the money

Cheers LD, thats pretty much what I read. I'd like to give my first brew every chance of succeeding..... :thumb:

I use brown Bulmer's Cider bottles for bottling. Great thing is I can have as many as I want absolutely free! If you're in the Essex area I may be able to help. Just crown corks and corking machine and you're away! :D
