I cultured up this yeast from a Ghost Ship mini keg, it worked really well and has fully fermented out by the looks of it. I made up a litre of starter with 100g of DME and split it between two jars like the one shown below with the slurry from the keg mixed evenly between the 2. It started fermenting straight away and as you can see has left a good layer of sediment/yeast at the bottom so I reckon there was a decent amount of viable yeast in there. I want to use this in my first full AG brew which will be a Galaxy Pale Ale but am not sure how much of this stuff to use, it will be a 10L batch with an OG of 1.046 approx. Do I just pour off the liquid and chuck in the yeast layer or mix it up a bit first? I have had a look at Yeast pitching calculators but am not sure whether to treat this as a liquid yeast/starter or slurry? Any advice appreciated!

Thanks so putting the numbers into the MrMalty calculator I should pitch about 25ml of the thick stuff at the bottom for a 10L brew, does that sound about right?

Yeah I moved the slider for concentration to thick but also get 42 at the default settings, would probably go with the higher amount anyway to be safe, better hurry up and get the next brew on! Any idea how long the yeast stays viable for before I would need another starter?

From what I can find on the forums this yeast (compacted down as it's gonna get is about 2-3 billion cells per ml so I don't move the slider.

If you keep it in the fridge, should be good for about 4 weeks

Thanks for the advice, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes the yeast was very lively in the starter

Yeah it feels like a nice little science project plus I get to buy beer in order to make more beer! Liquid yeasts seem a bit pricey in comparison...

I believe the Adnams yeast is excellent, you have made a great choice for your first AG brew.
