I like my ale on the 'hoppy' side :!:

Just returning to brewing after some 25/30 years or so

I like the kit I've just used for the first one, Brewers Choice IPA, brewed yesterday and went well I think OG 1050 :thumb:

The 'tea bag' idea they use, Would you suggest that would be a good way in future to add extra 'hopiness' to a brew :?: ie boiling them up seperately and adding to the brew :?:

there's so much to search through as well has anyone a link to a list of various hops and their benefits please :?:

I've just found the article on dry adding hops :thumb: so partially answered my own question

thats the problem at times, there's soooo much info on a forum it takes ages to catch up :!: I'm only about 8300 topics behind and over 80000 posts to read

No problems at all about making a "hop tea" and adding it to you beer to add aroma. Some brewers add it at the beginning but others ferment to a smaler volume with a higher gravity and cut back to the desired gravity with the hop tea once they reach the final gravity.

dry hopping will not add bitterness just aroma you have to boil the hops for bitterness, add the hop tea and dry hop for some great beers.

The hop doesn't really matter for hop tea as the boiling drives off the flavour and aroma oils, as to dry hopping well you will have to find a hop to your taste I particularly like East Kent goldings and bobek

You could also try "hop bursting" which is just a clever name for adding most of your hops within the last 15 minutes or so of the boil.

I've done IPAs (American) where I will add my bittering addition as a First Wort Hop addition and then the rest get added at 15, 10, 5, and flameout. That procedure makes for smooth but very hop assertive beers. I have not tried it with English style beers though.

Thanks again guys :thumb:

I can experiment as I go along with these tips, I am rather partial to hoppy beers so can give some of these suggestions a go :thumb:
