Just going to bottle my Southwold Bitter clone and think its infected. It's tricky to take a photo as I use a wide neck FV.

There was no sign of infection when I opened it to dry hop, now this. I normally dry hop with pellets, but had to use leaf Fuggles as they were all I could get. Could this be the reason? I'm wondering if the pelletisation process kills of any nasties lurking on hops.

That definately looks like an infection to me!

If you wanted to risk it for a biscuit, you could rack the beer from below (assuming it smells and tastes ok), leaving the cack on the top in the FV and bottle. You might get away with it. I had a mould on top of a beer once and did this and the beer was fine. I'd oven the bottles after though

Down the bog with that one mate, looks an extremely nasty concoction you got there.

Hops have natural antibacterial properties themselves but that does not rule out the possibility of something lurking within teh leaves that may itself be infected, a flay for instance. You would hope that Quality Control in the hop production would remove this but maybe some get through. probably more unlikely with pellets simply because lots of teh leaves and twigs are thrown away and chances of a beastie lurking inside before they are pelletised are minimised.

Yes bottle it , then when its ready we can all gather at MyQuls place and watch him drink it

That looks like the kind of cheese I enjoy - not flavours I'd like in my beer unfortunately. Hard to tell without putting some under a microscope, but I'd actually be wary of tasting the beer underneath myself and you wouldn't believe some of the things I've eaten and where I've eaten them!
