Just been diagnosed with diabetes and a sugar level of 17 on the rickter scale, done a google search and i will be allowed 3 glasses of wine per day so it may take me a while to finish off the 22 gallons i have at the moment. Theres talk of putting me on a starvation diet of 600 calories a day so going into pre-emptive strike with wheetabix diet, 9 WB = 603 calories per day plus milk of course, i have to see nursey on Friday, hope she's pleased with my positive action and i will at least avoid the big slipper (but the thought of just 3 glasses a day) wheres the prozac, Dave NE ps on an up note, really enjoying the cricket, channel 5, 7pm

Sorry to hear that :(

On a postive side at least you will have a reduced chance of sufffering from alcohol induced liver disease :thumb:

Who told you, you were allowed three glasses a day? that seems a lot considering the recommendations for an adult male is three units a day and adult femaile 2 units?

There was a thing in the news recently about that. A diet of no more than 600 cal a day for 8 weeks or so was found to reverse type two diabetes in some people. I haven't looked out the actual research but it would be a major finding if it works for a significant number of people. Looks like it was only 11 people and only 4 showed reversal after a year but such a simple cure even if it only works for some would be welcome news. I imagine that sticking to 600 cal a day for 8 weeks would take some will power.

edit to provide link to the news story and a pdf ofthe paper.

edit: also sorry to hear you have diabetes Dave Ne, best of luck with controlling it

Hi all, and thanks for your kind thoughts, went to see the nurse yesterday and i found the talk fascinating, i also found out my weetabix diet was the worse thing i could have done as diabetics cannot processe grains of any kind, including beer!!! Most of the staples are off the list which i will find hard as i was brought up with mashed potatoe, shepherds pie, leek pudding etc, i will have to search out meals that are filling but with none of the above (life changing or what). On an up note, i mentioned my wine making hobby and that all my wines are dry, she had no problems with that so at least i can still have a little tipple, cheers Dave
