This is a hypothetical thing, but has anyone taken their homebrew out to the wider world?

If you have, what quantities were you making per batch to make things viable, and what kind of licences or permits do you need before you can start selling your own beer?

I'm in Scotland, so not sure if there are different legal implications for doing this than in England and Wales.

Thanks guys

Craft fairs or supermarkets, if you are making alcohol for sale the requirements are the same. Although cider is a special case. Not the same league as knocking out a few cupcakes.

At a minimum you'll need to register with HMRC, AWRS and Environmental health. From knowing people who have gone commercial, it's all easy to setup, but the ongoing paperwork for HMRC is a PITA for small scale output.

Thanks very much for this. I knew about the HMRC stuff and the Environmental Health, didn't know about AWRS.

Hopefully someone who has gone commercial can give an idea of how much you would need to brew at a time for this kind of venture to be viable.

You also need a commercial waste disposal contract as part of the environmental health registration, even if you are chucking all of your grains onto a compost heap.

You don’t need the AWRS if your selling to the public only if you sell to other retailers

A yes, true. My mistake. Although easy to apply for and handy to have if you want to sell through a charity event etc. Gives the option to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise, like stocking pubs, local shops or restaurants.
