Hi Guys
I've moved up from wine kits and have just in the process of making Blackberry wine. Its been fermenting now for 4 days in a 10 litre bucket and now need to finish fermenting in a DJ. The problem is that the recipe has produced a "must" containing 7 litres- too much for one DJ and not enough for two DJs. Will I get away with putting 3.5 litres in each DJ?

Thank you, but I don't have 4 lits to put in both DJs, only 3.5 lits. I fear adding a litre of Red grape juice would knock it back to far. Would 3,5 lits + 500ml of grape juice making 4 lits in each DJ work, or will this leave too much air space in the DJ?

As long as the yeast is active and producing CO2 it ought to be fine with any amount of headspace.
When it's done, though, you might have a problem

fill one DJ

put the rest in a 2 litre PET and use it to top up after you rack

then drink the rest after you racked :drink:

you can easily fit an airlock on the PET

heat a screw with a lighter
push the hot screw through the lid
then quickly push in the airlock while the plastic is soft

Thanks for the advice. I've tried Geoffrey's idea, and now have both a DJ and 2 lit PRT bubbling away

You mean 7 divided by 2 isn't 4?
And I call myself a maths teacher.... :!: :!:

Sorry, I misread your earlier post!
