I have happily boiled 60L of wort on 1 element before now and usually only need one to maintain a rolling boil.

Can I assume your element is larger than 1.8Kw?

Bog standard tesco kettle element what ever that is may be 2.2kw. But it has on the odd occasion got 60L upto a boil when one the other has conked out and I regularly switch off one when I have a rolling boil.

So 1.8KW is more than fine for 27L as that is what the product is designed for.

@ graysalchemy,
I find that with 1.8kw my Lidl boiler takes a hell of a time to get up to 100Deg C and then cannot sustain it at 100Deg C for 90 mins for a rolling boil. I'm planning my next brew in a few days so will check it out now that I've lagged it.

I'm hoping and expecting to see an improvement.

I can only tell you what I have observed with my boiler which isn't lagged, though using a lid makes a difference.
