Feeling better informed on this one as I tried a Duval after it appeared in the 1st round.
Go Timmy!

I didn't dislike the Duval when I tried it the other week, but the phenolicy character is too strong for my liking, makes it hard going.

I was rereading " brewing Britain " last night and tt gets a couple of pages in there. It was also the beer i was drinking when I met my wife so has fond memories for me. I've tried Duvel but can't really remember it, never had bottled landlord either but I'm voting for the cask version.

I agree. I love many Belgian beers, but Duvel is not one of my favourites. If I was trying to introduce a foreigner to English styles, TT would be a solid choice.

Duvel is a good "entry level" Belgian beer when Leffe doesn't cut it anymore. It was definitely one of my first tries of "good beer" many years ago before I got into craft/real ale.

Over the weekend I'm gonna pick up a bottle of Weihenstephaner Hefe (the beer of the month), I'll pick up a TT as well to see if my tastes have changed.

Could be a decisive moment in the tournament. If Timmy qualifies, he'll benefit from a consolidation of the traditionalist votes at the business end of the competition whereas Duvels vote will be diluted. Mind you no easy ties at this level, every beer is there on merit, it would be a shame to see any of them go home etc

Not a truer word said there. A very astute observation as well.

If he makes it, Timmy could be a contender.

TT is a good, middle of the road beer. I prefer Duvel, but for many drinkers, I think the Belgian flavours are way out there. So I can see how TT has done so well.
