I've bought from both Beer52 and Flavourly and both were OK. I still get emails from Falvourly and nothing has tempted me to order again. One email promised a case of a certain number of styles and got the impression they weren't overly impressed with me pointing out their claim was, well, overly optimistic. I also thought I might point out their 'Oktoberfest' box was all, er, pilsener, but found something better to do.

I had a conversation with some friends who work for commercial breweries who said they have been approached as the cost price 52 were offering meant they simply could not produce their usual quality, so declined to work with them. On top of this, their customer service is shocking and if you do sign up and subscribe for a few months, it is almost impossible to cancel.

Though I've had 3 different accounts sent to different addresses to take up the introductory offers and so had to cancel 3 separate times so it's not entirely impossible. Their beers weren't too bad in my opinion, better than Flavourly anyway.

Makes me laugh how they value the box at RRP £74 and then knock £50 to make it £24!

I had a Beer52 subscription which was a pain to cancel, glad this one doesn't auto-opt into the subscription like their other offers generally do. I had a 5 month pause so it looks like I've only had a couple of these beers before.

Mirrors my experience. Had an offer for the first box for a fiver, second box was all contract brewed and not of great quality. Took a week of phoning up in order to cancel, when someone eventually answered the phone, it was a convoluted process and full on sales patter. Avoid.

100% agree. Poor quality. Contract brewed. Poorly handled/packaged (I've had some of the worst oxidation I've ever experienced from them). Overpriced. Waste of money. Garbage. When trying to cancel I was asked 'do you like stouts' in response to my feedback of how poor quality their beers are.

Having worked in craft beer for a number of years, this is just the most condescending way to treat a customer. It's the mail order equivalent to getting an oxidised beer, or sour cask pour in a bar, taking it back to the counter and being told 'that's how it's meant to be'.

I did take a punt on their introductory 'Wine52' offer. 3 bottles of wine for just about £4 postage. I got 3 bottles of acid. £32 they are charging for that. Not a single one of them would be worth £3.99 in a supermarket.

An absolute scam, and what really bothers me is that it's pitched and marketed like an entry to craft beer, trying to get people to try new things. The quality is so poor, and such bad value for money, that if I were a newbie to beer, and I got what they send, I would 100% agree with *that* Carling drinker who says all craft beer is garbage, and it would stop me exploring the sector any further.

Completely agree. A while back I got a free box from them and the beers weren't great. My average homebrew was better. I tried to cancel but you have to phone up and someone tried to convince you to stay. What bullsh*t is this?

I did wonder about the legality of stating you have to call to cancel - I know they're based in Scotland so have different laws to England & Wales but surely it breaches some disability discrimination law? I did it via email in the end (a series of emails I should say).

I ordered these because they are cheap and no sub. If it involved a sign up and cancel I wouldnt have. But I should say that when I previously fell into that trap before, the cancellation really way no hassle. Lad asked me if I wanted to just take a break, I said no he cancelled it.

First time I used Beer 52, I was genuinely impressed with the beer. Got 8 beers, snack and a mag for £2.95. 6 of the beers were excellent. Mostly from Boxcar Brewery. The other two were just about ok. Next time I used them, I was not so impressed. A lot of beers from Australia that just didn't deliver on what the info on the can was giving. Only one of them was good. Have to say, the phone call to cancel was no hassle. Fella obviously tried to get me to stay and offered me 50% off the next bundle. I possibly would have given that a go had I not already tried some of the beers / knew some of the breweries being mentioned (and not rated them).

Flavourly, on the other hand, I would not touch. A mate of mine bought 48 cans for £48 a couple of years ago. They were crap. He can put the beers away, no problem, and it took him about 6 months to get through them. He couldn't even give them away when peeps called round. There were some strange combos in there. To me it reeked of breweries trying to offload their failed experimental batches. There was an awful beer by Wild Beer Brewing that was some sort of low alcohol, spiced, cola cube porter. WTF?

I ordered from Flavourly fairly recently, on the basis that the beers were £1 a can (330ml) with free postage. I think it was 40 beers.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't bother again. All of the beers have been fairly average, with no stand outs at all. Just very bland.

My order has said 'at the courier's depot awaiting dispatch' for the last few days, but it hasn't changed for days so I suspect it's still at beer52 probably
