I am about to purchase a 10L pressure barrel as I attempt a switch from bottles to barrel. However, I am not sure about what to buy. The barrel I am looking at has a vent cap that allows for the safe release of any excess gas in the keg. I am told that the barrel is so small that I shouldn't need to repressurise it, so I don't need a pin valve or CO2 cannisters with this keg. I want to know if it would be wise to actually use a pin valve with CO2 cannisters to be sure about pressure?

I don't know much about pressure barrels given my recent bad experience, however I believe the pin valves also have pressure release functionality anyhow, so I imagine it wouldn't hurt to go pin valve. That way, if you change your mind and want to use CO2 in the future, you have the option.
Don't take my word though, I don't know much about PBs.

You can get various size kegs...I've not got any yet though..I think you can get 10 litre.
Sorry I thought you were using cornys. Do you know if a 10 litre corny would be o.k. for a 10 litre brew or does there need to be some SPACE? Also what does a 10 litre corny use for adding CO2?

I have two small barrels and one large. The small ones are better. They stay pressurised to the end of the barrel but the large one does need co2 squirts from the little silver top up things.
