I wanted a simmerstat but didn't want to drill holes in the base of the Ace and invalidate the warranty so came up with this idea.
It works well.

I got the plug socket, box and cable through work. So was free.
Simmerstat cost me £6.00.
And the button was £3.80.

I guess had I paid full price then project could have cost about £25.

The box plugs in to the mains (sorry you can't see the plug on the end of the cable)
The boiler plugs in to this box.
The simmerstat temporarily cuts power to the boiler, so the boil isn't as vigorous.
It's basically a knob off an electric cooker.
6 is full power, 1 is low power.
