    Ok guys many thanks :thumb:

    Bottling buckets

Thanks everybody for the responses. Seems it's worth shelling out just a few quid for a bottling bucket and one of those little bottler things. Could I just ask, is there a difference between a secondary FV (presumably that's a secondary fermentation vessel, correct?) and a bottling bucket? I...

    Bottling buckets

Hi, I've noticed that most beer starter kits don't come with what I believe is called a bottling bucket. I've seen it said somewhere that bottling from a fermentation bucket straight into bottles is a pain in the wotsits - very messy maybe. Also it's supposedly easier when adding the sugar for...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Hi, So can I take it that you now don't use a pressure barrel or keg at all? You just use bottles?

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Ok thanks. I must say, now I'm tilting t'other way - away from the keg and towards bottles :) I just found this link after 1 second of googling http://homebrewonline.vanillaforums.com ... ure-barrel which indicates it's a common question to ask but more importantly I understand now, as you draw...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Hi, Thanks for this. Would you still be able to use bottles for non-lager beers (e.g. ales, bitters)?

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Thanks Gav. Just wondering...if this can be treated "like a large bottle", what's the advantage over using this over the equivalent number of normal sized bottles? Seems like it would be the same as using one 5L bottle vs 10 0.5L bottles; without additional knowledge I'd imagine 10 small bottles...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Thanks for that Jon. I did see that some time back (wanted to link to it but couldn't) and figured it looked much better value than the Coopers kit, which seems to have a price premium built into it, maybe because it's been going so long; I was just confused as to whether it (the Woodfords...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Wow, thanks guys for all the responses - much appreciated. Sensibly some of you say it depends on what he drinks or wants to brew; but he drinks both lagers and ales and stuff like Leffe (not sure what category that falls into), and I have no idea which he would want to brew; reasonably he might...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Thanks very much guys for your replies. It seems then a bit counter-intuitive: you'd imagine (perhaps) as a newbie that the kits with the pressure barrel are more advanced ("wooh! pressure barrel!") and therefore "better" but it seems from what you're saying that they are definitely not better...

Beer starter kits with pressure barrel vs those without

Hi, I'm still looking for a beer starter kit, and I've noticed after a bit of looking that broadly, at least at the beginners' end, they seem to fall into two categories: a) those that come with a pressure barrel, either with or without (PET) bottles. I can't post urls to provide examples. b)...

    First beer kit recommendations?

I think you'll be waiting a while...I think he has yet to send his first email :D Re the Wherry - is it the beer (concentrate - sorry if that's not the right term!) that you used, or did you get the whole beer making kit?

    First beer kit recommendations?

Hi, Thanks Dennis. Re the links, no worries, makes sense, cheers. Re the contents of those kits, unfortunately wilko don't list the contents of their kit....erm, let me check again to be sure....yes, just checked, there's nothing there apart from the following measly crumb of information: Brand...

    First beer kit recommendations?

Hi guys, I apologise if this has been asked a zillion times. I want to buy a beer making kit for my dad for Chrimbo. Two obvious options seem to be a) a Cooper's kit - 70 quid b) Wilko's kit (30 quid) + a beer eg the Wherry one that people seem to like (16 quid) (Sorry, I tried to post urls to...
