Thanks for the good luck messages :thumb: I've had a look into the keg this morning and it looks to be fermenting away nicely fingers crossed it ends up tasting ok
Just finished my forth kit a Morgans Blue Mountain Lager made with 1kg brewing sugar and saflager yeast. At least that was the plan ............... But fate (and shoddy rush diy) decided it was not to be.
Everything was going to plan and for once I had planed ahead I had the yeast...
I've just been reading through the threads on Cooper Headbanging stout and Coffin Dodger and was thinking about trying a lager version while we still had some cold weather the general idea being
2 cans morgans blue mountain lager[/*:m:pe43rr7f]
500g light spraymalt[/*:m:pe43rr7f]
1kg brewing...
I've just had a look in the cap of my morgans blue mountain lager kit and the yeast supplied says its a lager yeast is there anything I can look for when its in the FV that'll tell me if it actually is a lager yeast or not?
I just finished putting a Muntons Imperial stout kit into my fermenter sadly I didn't check the contents of the box and it wasn't until got to sprinkling the yeast onto the wort that I realised there hadn't been a yeast packet in the box .
After a quick panic I grabbed the Morgans Blue...
I'd use the cheapest sugar you can get for priming since it's such a small amount comparativly it shouldn't affect the flavour of the brew. 1/2 a teaspoon is fine for ales, for lager which is generally more lively I'd say 3/4 to a whole teaspoon is more like it depends on how fizzy you like it.
Just had my first visit to my Local Homebrew Shop, very friendly people with a LARGE shed in the garden :)

Hi Guys
I'm planning on having a go at a TC this weekend and was wondering if I'll be able put it into the clear beer bottles I've got without fear of skunking the brew?
The coopers ones are also designed for the aussie brewer who as I understand things generally bottle in 330ml (1 drop) and 750ml bottles (2 drops) making them far less usefull when using pint bottles since that would be 1.5 drops approx.
Priming a Keg is hardly time consuming, and for bottles I...
I meant to ask the OP but that sounds alot like the report I got off the web admittedly from 2008 2 pages of chemical levels I've not heard of lol. Has hardness as CaCO3 though :)
what exactly did you get back?
I got a fairly comprehensive breakdown off the web for thames water off the web from http://www.thameswater.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID-8F6F0348-F2597437/corp/hs.xsl/899.htm
Just to elaborate a little on the dangers of getting air in your beer. As your beer ferments its produces carbon dioxide which is heavier than air so forms a blanket of sorts protecting your brew from airborne nasties unless as said you splash it around.
It's interesting to hear the processes different people use. My plan with this batch is
10 days in FV indoors
14 days in barrel in garage
bottle
14 days in bottles indoors
move bottles to garage for as long as will power holds out before drinking. At a guess 5 minutes :)
Hi All
Just want to check something before muck up my second brew.
Its a coopers lager kit brewed with the kit's yeast, been in the FV for 10 days and I've just transfered it into my pressure barrel without priming it with the intention of sticking it in the garage for a fortnight in a rough...
I thought it was slightly more than 1/2 for lagers since they're meant to be fizzier ....... the instructions with my coopers lager kit recons 1 teaspoon for 750ml bottles so scaling down I'd say 3/4 for 500ml. BUT please don't take my word as gospel my second kit is still in the bucket :)
Cheers Aleman, I guessed it'd be a bad idea but figured I may as well ask.
My kits just turned up so I'd best be off to the shops and buy this water ........ while I'm there it'd be rude not to see if there is any beer on offer :drink:
Hi
I've found the answers to most of my questions by searching the forum but could see anywhere this had been asked.
I don't have nearly enough bottles to bottle my first brew I'm probably going to use plastic bottles. Is it going to ruin my beer if I buy carbonated water for the 500ml...
