    AG#7 Robinsons Old Stockport

Did another brew of Robinson's Old Stockport from GW's book, tweaked the ABV up to 4% in Beersmith and it's a repeat of AG#3 or 4 which turned out very well. I'll save the ingredients for the book as it's certainly one worth buying, also used MO with this one. Added the following water...

    70l or 100l Shiny pots?

i think really you need to think of it backwards to a certain extent. How are you going to dispense? 19ltr cornys / 10 /20ltr polypins / cask pins / firkins? How are you going to ferment the beer? 2 x 23l buckets? a larger bucket? a conical? I think once thats answered you can work out how big...

    50l Thermopot Mash Tun

If you want to do HERMS eventually get him to put a ball valve at the top now. I wouldn't bother with a temp gauge, brewing inside you are probably going to lose 1 degree over 90 mins and when you do go herms you'll be measuring the temp elsewhere. I went the DIY route when you could get the...

40mm Q-Max is a 12mm bolt, if you only have an 11 then i would just give it a wiggle.

    HERMS PT100 question

If you are going in the end of a T you would need a 1/2" bsp PT100 or a 1/4" bsp PT100 and a 1/4" to 1/2" bsp reducer assuming you are running a 1/2" bsp T or alternatively in the side of a T use http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_ ... cts_id=249 from my reading NPT is very similar to BSP...

Soft water and it's effects on the mash

I'm trying to track down if my water profile is effecting my mash or i have a problem with my sparging / technique The reason being is i'm fortunate to live in a soft water area. That said the mineral composition is really low. PH: 7.34 Calcium: 16.50 Magnesium: 2.47 Sodium: 7.55 Sulfate...

    HERMS PT100 question

I would suspect the problem would be sealing the pot with that probe. Depending on where you are fitting the probe you would be better off with a 1/4" bsp and put it in the end of a T or i believe MrLard sells a sealing kit for the 1/4" bsp threaded one. Alternatives are available from the...

    Which elements?????

I've gone with a single 2.4kw / 10 amp backer element in the hlt and 2 of those in the boiler. Both 50ltr stainless bergland pots. I use both elements on the boiler to get to the boil then part cover the top and use a single element. This was in the garage with temps around 8c. 2 elements are...

Shiny boiler on the way! Kettle element?

Lol, they do make the unit feel secure though. And when messing with hot water and electrics that makes able not to worry about them coming loose.

    stc-1000 housing

I used a couple of 5m maplin single extension leads that was on offer for £4.99 and a project box again from maplin. Cut the extension down and use the excess wire to wire things up. Didn't bother with glands but really I should do.

Shiny boiler on the way! Kettle element?

Nick the backer elements I bought were 39.4mm ideal for the 40mm Qmax cutter. I also used the km8 nut linked on these forums. No leaks as yet.

    Which PID?

Bought the following ebay item 320869323753 I have also ordered a 1/4" BSP PT100 from MrLard so that it will go into the T for the sight glass. The SSR is powering a single Backer 2400 element, i ended up adding a makeshift heatsink out of some aluminium and adding a 12v fan to the ssr input...
