Do I need a mash tun or can I use my boiler?

My recipe is Here . . .although I would up the Coriander next time, and use the zest of 3 or 4 oranges instead of curacao orange peel. Hi. I have just brewed the above (in the link). After the 'cooking' (sorry still not up on the lingo) the Hygromitor gave me a reading of 1.030 when I pitched...

Do I need a mash tun or can I use my boiler?

Well, thanks for all the advice. I will see how it goes. Just got to sit down now and order all the grains, and wait for my current brew to be bottled. Hopefully should be starting this one in about 4-6 weeks, just when my second child enters the world. I somehow think this brew might have to...

Why is my beer going flat!!!

Also - out of interest - what extract brew did you do? I used Coopers Amber Malt Extract extract. It seemed ok, but it is the first one I have used. Thanks for confirming my thoughts. Bugger. Might bottle the rest of it tonight and start again. M

Hello All Well my first extract beer has been very very good, even if I do say so myself. :thumb: The first few pints came out fantastic. Really good head. Nice. However, and I think I know what I am doing wrong, but I just want to check, the beer has gone flat. I have tried bottling a few...

No yeast head after 4 days of fermentation

Hi (again!) Well, I have done my first 'Malt Extract' brew on Sunday, but I am having problems! I made the yeast starter on Thursday and it looked fine. Nice head. Very similar to the one posted on my other thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4303 . However, it is now 4 days after the yeast was put...

What sort of bottle for a starter mix?

Hi All I'm going to make my first yeast starter mix tonight, for brewing on Sunday. It says in all the books and forums I have read, "use a bottle". What sort of bottle? A clear wine bottle of 75cl, or a 1L bottle or what. I know they have to be sterile and I have everything else ready to go...

Do I really need a boiler?

I went for the BruPack boiler, and I am going to have a go making some Timothy Taylor Landlord. I have a couple of Graham Wheeler books and one of them has over 100 recipes, so I am going for that one first. Quite keen to make some stronger beer too, as I do like the strong dark ales, but not...

Do I really need a boiler?

Well, the boiler is now bought! After looking at how to make one, and even though it did appear very easy, I wanted to make the brewing process as easy as possible, so I spent £65 on a ready made one! Malt extract has also been bought, along with hops etc. I'm going to brew some Timothy Taylor...
