    Scaling recipes

That's the other option. Just brew the lot but fill a dozen bottles. I'd maybe scale it back a tad just.

Yeah, I've a big bucket that I keep dry to mix grains together before mashing. Good tip re freezing the hops. Cheers.

    Scaling recipes

I've this AG kit to brew. Really don't fancy doing it all in one go. Mostly because I've never done a grain bill that big in my grainfather, and I'm not a huge strong porter fan and don't want it taking up a keg for 6 months. Can I simply half everything and do the second half another time...

    What did you brew today?

Tasted the wort just after pitching. Even though the rye only makes up 10% of the bill, can really taste the "spicyness". I'm sure that will demininsh as the alcohol ramps up and the dry hopping kicks in.

    What did you brew today?

Rye IPA. Expect the gravity to come out at 1010 rather than the predicted 1014

First attempt at making real sparkling wine need some new kit recommendations for next batch?

In that case I'll try a cheap pinot grigio kit with sugar rather than a 100% grape juice kit... Happy to pour £25 down the drain if it doesn't work out! My tap water is slightly acidic which will help.

First attempt at making real sparkling wine need some new kit recommendations for next batch?

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm thinking of doing a sparkling wine. I've never done a wine kit but my partner and half of my friends only seem to drink prosecco. So thinking of something like blending a pinot grigio and Chardonnay kit and serving from a corny. @Rakey any more words of...

DIY Neoprene boiler / FV / Corny Jackets

Thanks everyone, great suggestions. I've just realised I've a load of 50mm foil backed mineral wool insulation left over from our house build. I can double it up and tape the edges and that will be perfect for the FVs and even the cornies.

DIY Neoprene boiler / FV / Corny Jackets

I was going to purchase a grain coat for my grainfather, but at £50 I thought there must be a more cost effective way of doing it. I currently just use a big old yellow site jacket! And I thought it would be handy to have one for my FVs, and also my cornies as they are outside this time of...

    Sedement in keg

Yes but only at the first pour, as long as you don't move your kegs around. I've a floating dip tube (get er brewed) but only used it twice. Both times it's got stuck and I've had to shake the keg to free it. Defeating the whole point. I will reserve it for transferring likes of lagers from...

    HELP .. Red IPA recipe

Kinnegar brewing in Donegal make a red rye IPA, called Rust bucket. It's one of my favourite beers. Have a search and you'll find clone recipes, including on here.

    Bottling from a Corny

Thanks, Interesting! It's four swing top 500ml glass bottles. For the hassle that's involved I think I might just prime them. They've another 4 weeks of conditioning before drinkable anyway. Means I can have them wrapped up and delivered to my neighbour this week. In future, I think if I'm...

    Bottling from a Corny

I've a Triple conditioning at the minute under ~15psi. I'd like to bottle some of it to give as gifts. I don't have a beer filler / gun etc. Should I wait until it's fully conditioned and carbonated and just fill bottles from the tap and hope it holds enough CO2? Or pour now, decarb, and prime...

Quick JG adapter fitting question - 1/4 BSP?

    Fermentation will not start

Full tilt now. Some bubbles appeared yesterday evening and things are normal this morning. Gravity 1032. Smells good. No idea which of the three yeasts are doing the work tho :)

Quick JG adapter fitting question - 1/4 BSP?

I've bought a 3/8 BSP to 1/4 push fit off ebay, closest I could find. Just now need a 1/4 to 3/8 bush which I can pick up at local plumbing merchant, and a length of 1/4 OD tube which I'm sure I have anyway.

    Fermentation will not start

gravity 1050 pH 5.5 still no signs of fermentation. The wort has bay leaf in it (basically my all grain version of Andy Hamilton's bay and rosemary ale) which I've used before and never had an issue with fermentation.

    Fermentation will not start

I made a basic brown ale on Tuesday. Nothing unusual, OG1051, 19l batch, into fermenter at 22c. Admittedly, I used an out of date pack of BRY-97, sprinkled straight in as I always do. 18hours later no activity. So I pitched a pack of S-04 (also out of date but only by a year). That was a good...

Quick JG adapter fitting question - 1/4 BSP?

Thanks, I had my doubts about the different threads! So what's the thread size on a quick connect, e.g. a ball lock disconnect on my corny?
