Questions for 40L Buffalo Boiler Users

Hi. I've got the 40 litre buffalo and do Biab with it. I usually fill it to leave 4.5 cm headspace (cold). I use the Biab calculator too. It's very good. I usually get 25 litres into fermenter with no boil water additions and no sparge with a 1.040-1.045 strength brew. Before you dough in take a...

Which yeast for my Belgian stout?

I think fairly neutral too. There's already a lot going on in there with all the chocolate malt, Belgian special B, Roast Barley and Munich malts. I think peppery and spicy too might be pushing it!

Which yeast for my Belgian stout?

The Belgian yeast that the recipe calls for is wyeast 1762 Belgian abbey which is fairly neutral. The Mangrove Jacks Belgian is peppery/spicy. Not sure about it!

    Hatherwood Ruby Rooster at Lidl

99p at Lidl and not half bad. Only 3.8% but brewed with fuggle, golding, cascade and styrian goldings. Brown glass bottle too! They also do one called Golden Goose. Brewed with fuggles and styrian goldings. Clear glass bottle though so better when they are fresh.

    AG 12 Fuller's Discovery and Bru'n water

It's escaping out of the airlock this morning. Probably the best fermentation I've had so far. Water treatment works

    AG 12 Fuller's Discovery and Bru'n water

So just finished my Fuller's discovery clone. I hadn't paid much attention to water treatment up till now but my last couple of brews weren't quite right. I've been having problems with cloudy wort and the beer was finishing with a higher final gravity than expected. I tried mashing at lower...

First all grain. Hop back summer lightning.

Just cracked open first bottle and it has a strange taste. Tastes bit like a sharp wheat beer. It hasn't had long in cool place as I've been in England for a month and left the beer in the living room. I'm hoping it'll improve with age. It's in the cellar now which is about 10 degrees. Fingers...

First all grain. Hop back summer lightning.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure it will get quicker and maybe next time I'll have time to take pictures! ;) Here's one of said brew trying to escape from the fv. :nono:

First all grain. Hop back summer lightning.

Well the call of the dark side was too strong to resist! Been a long day. Started at 12 midday and just finished cleaning the kitchen at 10pm. Got 20.5 litres at an original gravity of 1.048 which was not far off my target of 23 litres at 1.049. Used the maxi-biab method and must say it went...

    St Peters ruby red yeast.

I've put it in the bath. The problem is we have a heat wave out here at the moment and the only place in the house for the FV, away from my toddler, is 20 degrees at the moment. The airlock on the FV fascinates him!

    St Peters ruby red yeast.

Gone with the Youngs yeast. At least it's a fresh unopened packet! Thanks for help. Struggling to keep temp down now. I've put wet towel over the FV and it's still 22 degrees. :?

    St Peters ruby red yeast.

    St Peters ruby red yeast.

Bottled my Woodforde wherry today and as I had a bath full of sterilsing fluid I thought what the heck I might as well clean the FV and put the next kit in it straight away! :D I've gone for a St Peters Ruby Red but only half a kit! Sounds a bit strange but I already brewed the first can when I...

Woodforde Wherry, is it ready to bottle?

Thanks. Good idea. I just need another 10 empty bottles. Better get emptying some of the local brew!

Woodforde Wherry, is it ready to bottle?

Hi. My woodforde wherry kit has been in the FV for 7 days now. Temp was constant 21 degrees. Plenty of bubbling for first 3 days. I've taken a hydrometer reading today and it's 1010. If it's the same tomorrow and the next day am I safe to assume I can bottle it? It's really quite clear and the...

    Hi from Austria

Thanks. Glad to be on the forum. Loads of hints and tips on here. All I need now is some patience! In the process of collecting few empty bottles! Zillertal is the local brew but it hasn't tasted as good since they swapped from brown to green bottles about 3 years ago. Want to try and get brown...

    Hi from Austria

Just got my second brew underway. A woodforde wherry. I substituted the yeast that came with the kit for a safale 04. Hope this yeast is suitable? Anybody out there done a wherry with this yeast? My first brew, a St Peter's Ruby Red is conditioning in bottles in a cool garage although I couldn't...
