    2 years a brewer!

Well I decided to learn the noble art of brewing beer during lockdown 2020. Started with kits (2 of) then decided I wanted to brew from scratch. After extensive research and learning what the word 'sparge' means I gradually built up the gear needed....Electrim Mash Bin, Sparge water heater, brew...

    Chestnut Homebrew

Hi everyone, next Saturday im planning on brewing a Chestnut Dark Brew this involves a load of chestnuts boiled in the strike water, then dried in the oven, shelled and put in a blender then added to the grain to mash, has anyone done anything like this before? And how did it turn out?

    A series of cock ups?

Also the dark brew was a total write off, the smell was more nail polish remover than vinegar. Anyway I repeated it a few weeks later, the only change was to syphon into bottles rather than tap, turned out to be a lovely brew this time, keeping a mini keg back for xmas :)

    A series of cock ups?

Thanks for you reply, i was thinking i was getting a bit cocky after 2 good brews lol i'll leave it another week or so. The SMaSH brew looks like straw at the moment but then again my first SMaSh with Maris Otter Extra Pale was the same and it was lovely. I guess if it ends up at 3.1%+ thats not...

    A series of cock ups?

Hi, well it had to happen sooner or later. I brew a darker more hobgoblin type and there were a couple of things i did different to my previous brews which i dont think i'll do again: 1. I used the tap on my electrim boiler to move the post boiled wort into my fermenting bin rather than a...

Help - First Full Grain BIAB and I have low OG

Im only a noob but I wouldn't worry too much, my last 2 brews were 0.1 below the OG on the recipe but the ABV was still 4.4ish in the end, you may find your SG will be lower too :)

    BIAB - Chucking hops in?

I might adopt this method, as im in agreement im not sure about using a bag for hops and getting scalded when trying to add more lol however is does seem to work well for dry hopping :)

    What did you brew today?

I brewed a darker beer with pale, dark crystal and chocolate malts. Ive done two pale ale brews previously so this is a first.

    Floaties!

I'm syphoning but without a sediment trap, just a racking cane or auto syphon, is that something I can purchase?

    Floaties!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and if one good thing has come out of this pandemic it's me learning to brew beer. I started with a couple of kits which turned out nice but wanted to expand it a bit more to all grain brewing. I've done 2 brews, one was a SMaSH brew with Maris Otter Extra Pale...
