Help with a Saison - ginger and orange

It sounds a nice beer. I made a ginger beer with a ton of ginger, really really fired. I boiled it up as a tea separately alongside the brew and added it in through a seive towards the end of the boil. I'm not sure if it affected the yeast as it was a low attenuation yeast anyway but it was one...

    Reusing Biere D’or bottles

I thought about using them for a stronger beer when 500ml was too much, and discounted the idea for several reasons. They feel very thin glass, they're also green and so the beer is at risk of being skunked unkess you can keep them in the dark, and also the neck and rim didn't work well in my...

    Kits I Wouldn't Brew Again

I've done about 4 or 5 kits vs more than 50 all grain brews, but there is none of them that I would brew again. I'll still brew more kits to see if there is ever one that I'm happy with, I've got 2 in the cupboard to try. My preference is rather to use dry extract if not doing all grain

    Is cask beer this simple?

I recently got a Fermenter King to save me bottling as I hated bottling from the beginning of brewing. The carbonation is purely from fermentation and it serves up pints just like you'd get on cask. There's the option to add CO2 but I haven't needed to yet. ...unlike cask it doesn't draw any...

    Inside the Factory - Guinness

This is on again tonight. I think the bit about the high temperature at which they steep the roasted barley makes more sense this time, because they roast the barley on site and then add cold water to the kiln to halt the roasting process, which then ends up at 110C (I think thats what they...

    Tips

I don't like to tip usually unless there's been exceptional service. I've asked for service charges to be removed from a bill when the service hasn't been any good and you don't realise until getting the bill that they've added it on top. Went to an all inclusive in Turkey recently and people...

    Bikes.

I'd like a bike but nothing too fast, just something to plod around, though when I did the CBT the 125 was definitely too slow.

Best place to buy mixed cases of beer online?

I'm going to give them a try. Biggest plus for them is the cans are 440ml vs. 330ml / 350ml US, as to me they're just sample sizes unless the beer is above 6%. Beer52 got me to re-sub with a £10 intro offer which to be fair is good value, but then after that £30 for 8 little cans is too steep...

    dry hop methods & oxidation

I'm a big believer in throwing the pellets into the fermentation vessel and letting them settle out over a week or so, it's always worked for me for ales and IPAs. The pellets initially float and then break up to a powder/paste on the top, getting as much extraction as possible. Then as they...

    Ultra processed food

The "healthy food is expensive" fallacy It's actually much cheaper to buy base ingredients and make a recipe.

How has it taken them this long?

Ah, misunderstood slightly. I prefer dry malt extract over liquid any day.

How has it taken them this long?

I don't get the rush when making beer, it's the wrong mindset. I think it's quite common though with people who haven't brewed before, a month seems like an eternity 🙃 If you brew regularly it's no bother that each beer beer takes a month or so as there's always something in the pipeline.

    Hot weather food

I think a Greek salad is the best thing you can have in hot weather, obviously much nicer when it's next to a nice beach as well 🤣

It's good for subtle aroma but it's more on the earthier side, I probably wouldn't like to overdo it

    New Capri

A lot of car brands are just using their old models to remind people that cars used to be interesting. Like the new Golf advert, for no reason at all they had to include a mk1 Golf to make it look good. Something car adverts never have... traffic

    Marston's no longer brewing beer

Marstons have a really weird business strategy... buy up all the small breweries, then mess around with them before shutting them down, and now they're leaving the game. Has someone from Carlsberg been working behind the scenes all along planning world domination 🤣
