    Dry Hops and Finings

Down the rabbit hole in this website and turned up this incredibly useful video. All seems rather straight forward.

    Dry Hops and Finings

Thanks for the response. I have never even heard of a hop tea so thats a compelling topic to look into. If its what I am guessing it is, i at least wouldn't need any more equipment than I already have.

    Dry Hops and Finings

Hi, I have been making homebrew for a while now but I am by no means an expert and still come across some rudimentary problems from time to time. As a general rule, I like using dry hops and also using Harris Starbrite as finings. I ferment in my fermenter, then go to a bottling bucket and...

    Primary and Bottle Conditioning Times

Thanks everyone. Conscensus seems to be that there will be no ill affects if switching to 2 weeks. My beers are seldom big, high % beers and are always at room temperature. I think I will aquire enough bottles to keep more batches at once and give it a go.

    Primary and Bottle Conditioning Times

Hi all, I would appreciate some input on the following. I currently brew in primary for 3 weeks and bottle condition for 3 weeks. It works well for me for the results I am after. It means I get a new batch every 3 weeks and have 3 weeks to finish drinking them before the next batch comes along...

Dissolved C02 in Primary an its affects

Is the conscensous that the c02 isn't making much difference to the hydrometer readings? That's a shame because I think my current batch is going to be piss water. 1.036 OG to 1.012 so far after 3 weeks. Had to dump 500 grams of extra sugar in it to get it to 1.036. Was 1.030 out of the kit and...

Dissolved C02 in Primary an its affects

Hi all, It seems recently that my brews have had a ton of dissolved C02 in them, even after sitting for 3 weeks in primary. I have just put dry hops in my current 3 week old batch and the airlock has picked up to bubbling every 2 seconds. I noticed a lot of bubbles coming off as well when I...

    Kviek advice for current brew

Thanks for this reply. I usually hydrate the yeast when I am pitching in the first place. I will be bottle conditioning, so I appreciate you advice on erring on the lower side. There is still a fair amount of C02 bubbling out as well, so I definitely want to avoid bottle bombs.

    Kviek advice for current brew

Hi all, I am in need of some advice regard Kviek. I did a Kviek brew before, without a heat source, but pitching the yeast at 38C and keeping the fermenter insulated to retain enough heat for the Kviek. That brew worked really well. I am attempting to do the same with the current brew thats...

Help with Understanding and Choosing Yeast

Lots of good suggestions here. I might have to get a few different yeasts together for the next few batches

Help with Understanding and Choosing Yeast

It's not that I don't like the supplied yeast, it's that I am trying to understanding its role in the finished beer by experimenting with different strains. I can have consistency with ordering the same kit more than once, but see the different results when brewed with different yeasts

Help with Understanding and Choosing Yeast

I like these suggestions. I had been avoiding us yeasts because my understanding was that they were lower flocculators (Is that a word?) The descriptions of these as high flocculators on the companies site is encouragement enough for me to give one a blast. Might get a couple of M44's in the...

Help with Understanding and Choosing Yeast

Hi All, This forum has been an unbelievably helpful source of information for me starting out at home brewing. I am currently trying to improve my understanding the choice of yeast and its impact on the finished beer. I have the following example. I have brewed Youngs American Amber Ale twice...

    Stirring Your FV

Thats super information. Thanks for this. I have no facility for cold crashing but if I can just pour finings over the back of a spoon so get better results than currently, then I will press on with that. Good timing as well as I was planning on doing that tomorrow.

    Bottling Before Fermentation Is Complete

Hi All, I have just had a bad batch of home brew and I am beginning to think that it might have been due to bottling before the fermentation was complete. It had been left in the FV for 3 weeks but I forgot to measure the FG. The beer had an awful solvent type taste and was undrinkable. I am...

    Stirring Your FV

OK. I think I am should be fine doing this next week when its time. I don't want another dud batch so I am being extra cautious.

    Stirring Your FV

Hi all, Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I am planning on using finings for the first time. I was recommended Harris Starbrite, the instructions of which say to stir 10ml into your wort/beer a couple of days before bottling. It seems to me that stirring your beer in this stage would...

Disgusting Batch - Help What Went Wrong

The mrs doesn't drink beer but she does treat the fermenter like a pet. She was annoyed when I bought a new air lock that didn't make the bubble sound. Had to revert to my old one.
