Ok, so I did keg the Wherry on Sunday, and it looked and smelled like a perfectly quaffable ale  In fact I did get a mouthful when siphoning and it tasted pretty good, although the aftertaste was with me all day :!: Once kegged, I then proceeded to clean and sterilise all the...

I'm planning on kegging this weekend, is it good practice to filter the brew when transferring from fermenter to keg? Purchased the Ruby Red, and another keg, to start brewing once the Wherry has been kegged :thumb:

That sounds like a very good plan :thumb: I have been looking at other brew kits to try, but just can't decide what to try next :wha: Although this sounds good: That St Peter's sounds lovely, reckon that will be my next brew. Will probably purchase tonight along with another keg

Hi Neil, Ok, more than happy to leave it until next weekend before kegging :thumb: thanks for that. At this stage should the temp be the same 20-21, or a bit cooler? I'm at St Teath, between Wadebridge & Camelford

The SG was 1012 yesterday and still looks to be 1012 today. There are still a few very teeny bubbles surfacing, would it hurt to leave it another day before casking? :wha:

Ok, so this morning the airlock looked a bit dormant so plucked up the courage to take the lid off and have a gander. First off it certainly smells beery, but a little bit sharp if that makes sense :wha: The specific gravity is is 1014, and bear in mind I don't have a previous reading to use...

Maybe I just panicked, had a quick look last night and the airlock is bubbling again :wha: Didn't take a reading last night, but will tonight and report back. Today (Thurs) is the 4th day of the brew, just didn't expect it to stop fermenting so soon. But as above, i'll take a reading...

This is a real newbie question now, but how did you know it had stopped fermenting?

    Temperature control and other questions

I'm actually wrapping mine up at night with a blanket made from some foil insulation left over on a site i'm working on. Similar to this stuff; http://www.wickes.co.uk/thermal-insulat ... vt/210022/

Thanks Darren, will try and maintain a constant temp, although the fermenter is in a shed

    Temperature control and other questions

Hi blackrat, I'm very similar to you, just started my very first kit yesterday and have the same questions regarding temperature control. :wha: Sorry I can't help but you're not alone :thumb:

Joined you chaps to research my 1st ever brew

Hello there and welcome, I recently purchased a beer kit and joined this forum, after never having brewed anything at all before. I bought the Woodfordes Wherry kit, and yesterday I started on it. Really straightforward, although I did ask this forum for a bit of advice.......and got loads of...

Thanks Wolverine After posting my last comment I got chatting on the instant chat with Titch and Muddy, they were of enormous help. I had already put a little bit of water in the airlock which seems that was the correct thing to do :thumb: I added the yeast at 4 oclock yeserday afternoon...

Ok, so today I have finally gone for it, my first ever attempt at homebrew  Woodfordes Wherry is now being brewed in North Cornwall  I have a couple of questions though; I have followed the instructions with the kit and also followed this guys advice...

Hi Prolix, thanks very much for your advice. That towel idea is brilliant, any more tips like that would be immensely helpful. I'm trying to glean as much info as I can before I start the brew. Planning on starting next weekend, after our local beer festival on Friday night

Thanks Anthony, I do understand that stable temperatures are important, and will certainly search the forum for more info before I start brewing. I want to do as much as I can correctly but cheaply :thumb:

Hi Wolverine, Thanks for the reply. I did actually look at the thermometer yesterday that came with the kit, temp was ok. The shed has opening windows so I can use those as vents if it's going to be a scorcher. If the brew is reasonably successful then I would be quite happy to build...

    Cornish Pasty anyone?

Thanks for the welcome Neil :) A friend of mine mentioned wrapping the fermenter up too :thumb: and the shed is in a sunny position, with opening windows - ideal in case the temperature gets too high. I'm at North Cornwall, little village called St Teath, between Wadebridge and Camelford...

Hi all, This week I was dead excited to receive Woodfordes Wherry Microbrewery. I have never brewed anything ever, and have always been a beer drinker, so thought I'd give it a go. Problem is I've made a big blunder. I don't have anywhere to brew apart from a garden shed. Today I've made...
