What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Wanted to see how my Yorkshire Bitter is coming along, unfortunately I have forgotten how long it takes for yeast to eat through the priming sugar when it’s 10°C in the utility room so while it seems to be a decent enough beer I can still taste the sugar, so will leave the keg for a few more...

Château Olivier Pessac-Léognan 2011 (60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot) An absolutely gorgeous wine this is why I find it hard to stray from Bordeaux.

A second Médoc (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) but Oaked this time, higher abv and much heavier, a good continuation of my evening,

Château Moutinot Saint-Estèphe 2019 (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc) A fairly ‘standard’ grape blend but a bit different in that it’s un-oaked leading to a much fresher taste, makes for an excellent wine.

    Crossmyloof

On a purely self interest basis I am just hoping that the new ownership will keep the excellent hop blends in particular the Tropical England blend.

This is a remarkably good Bordeaux for the price, a nice blend of mostly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavour is rich and heavy, with that distinctive taste you get from a wine that has being stored in oak. Look I’m really not very good at describing wines but what I will say is I like this...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

A Boulevardier which is basically a Negroni made with Bourbon (Makers Mark on this occasion) instead of Gin. I was a little worried that the Campari and Vermouth would overpower the bourbon but it still comes through rather nicely.

It’s Roast duck tonight so this rather nice Côtes du Rhône from Aldi, seems ideal.

    What did you brew today?

Just realised this is my first brew since August, a mixture of wet weather when I’ve had the time to brew and other things on when he weather is okay (I brew outside), but finely the stars have aligned and I got a batch of Bitter brewed, just Maris Otter, Crystal and a little torrified wheat...

    Your First Beer

Perhaps a better question would be what was the first beer you actually liked, for me I would probably say Caffrey's probably in part because of how smooth and unbeer like it actually tastes. It really wasn’t until I was a wee bit older that I started honestly liking beer that tasted like...

One of my go to white wines a Côté du Rhône made with Viogner, Roussanne, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc. While the region is probably more well know for its red’s I really like there Whites (well I enjoy the reds too) this is very much an easy drinking wine which goes well with the Thai Green...
