Brewing from out of date beer kits

It's a long story, but the short bit is that I found some old beer brewing kits in a cupboard today and decided to brew them up. The kits were well past their Best Before End dates, the cans had bulged ever so slightly, and when I cracked open two of them there was a bit of a hiss of gas...

Things I've seen when riding my bike

I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike! What do I see when riding my bike? Well there's a Lamborghini in this next street, a Nissan Skyliner in the street after that, various Bentleys, Porches, a few Ferraris, and other such expensive metal boxes. There was a silver Aston Martin...

    Fingers crossed

I recommend that you don't even think about thinking about brewing without a hydrometer. They're super cheap and easy to use, so get two! (You will break one sooner or later, I promise you.) Get a hydrometer jar too, again they're super cheap, and since they are usually made of plastic they...

    Tips

Clean straight away anyway that suits you. Then most important, in my opinion, is to hang it up vertically and let all the remaining liquid drip out of it as it dries. I've not had a length of tubing go bad for some years now since adopting this approach. Good luck, and cheers!

    Too warm to brew?

Awesome! What make/model is that? How did you get the ice tray out? Thanks.

    Too warm to brew?

Ooooh, now that's fridge-tastically clever! I had heard the term "Ink Bird" but wasn't sure what it meant until just now (that and a quick whizz around the interwebs). Fridges have bulges inside the bottom, where the compressor lives, and ice compartments in the top, which often...

    Too warm to brew?

I made up a beer kit the other day but the ambient temperature was at least 26C, right through the night, too high to pitch the yeast. I live in a second floor flat, hence no basement, and even our balcony is something of a suntrap. So I stood the bucket in the bath full of cold water for a few...

Bulldog Beer Kit - Evil Dog Double IPA

I just started fermenting a Bad Cat of the same parish :)

    Problems with Festival Bitter

The cider is quite dry, and lightly carbonated. Very nice too. Can't wait to make it again :)

Bulldog Beer Kit - Evil Dog Double IPA

Bottled 23 litres of Evil Dog Double IPA yesterday, and oh my giddy aunt the heady aroma of hops was quite simply amazing! Took quite a while to ferment out, though it cleared easily enough, 20 days from pitching the yeast to bottling the brew. It did was it said on the box though, it...

    Problems with Festival Bitter

I've had problems with Festival Suffolk Strong Ale secondary fermentation and conditioning. Loads of gas in the PB but the brew won't carbonate, flat as a pancake. Tasted OK, but it wasn't great. I'm pretty meticulous, and keep good notes of my brews, but in case it was my mistake I made...

    Hello from Kew, London

Hi, I've been home brewing wines and beers on and off for about 25 years now (mostly off rather than on it must be said). Early on I was very experimental with country wines, less so now, though I do have a few demijohns of mead clearing in the cupboard. So far I've always stuck with kits...
