    Belgian Mild

I did! It got down to the 1.006 area in the end so I bottled it. Its pretty nice, basically a session dubbel. I‘m on a drive to greatly reduce my booze intake and having a belgian beer at the 4% mark is good.

    The Mixed Fermentation Thread

So I’ve decided on 4.5 litres of the 2018 and 2020 beers and 6 litres of the 2019 to blend. Have to decide what to do with the rest of them; I’ll probably bottle the rest of 2018 as it is as it’s a really nice complex beer, just a little rough on the back of the throat early on. 2020 I might...

    The Mixed Fermentation Thread

Time to do some “gueze” blending! Never done it before but I’ve read some blogs and articles and the chapter on blending in American Sour Beers, so I have a rough idea of how I want to go about it.

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

This weather is bloody awful for growing chillies without a heated greenhouse isn’t it?! This time last year we had plenty of sun and warm days so my plastic greenhouse was great, this year I’m still doing the Hokey Cokey of indoors and out. I hadn’t even put my plants into their final pots...

    Belgian Mild

Still in the FV. I sampled it after 3 weeks and it was still at 1.018, which was troubling to say the least. Since then I’ve contracted a severe case of can’t be bothereditis. I’ll probably check it next weekend and maybe even bottle it

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

Today my wife and I took part in a local community seedling sale for charity. Several of the others who contributed has grown chillies, so I sold some of my seedlings and bought some others. So I now have strong seedlings one each of Apache, Jalapeño, Chocolate Habanero, Cayenne and Hungarian...

    The Mixed Fermentation Thread

My “ethos” on Brett is that I trust it to clean up oxygen where I get a bit sloppy with racking etc, but I don’t go out of my way to introduce it. So I think your original DJ plan is a good one. @Sadfield has definitely done some ageing of British style ales with Brett C so hopefully he can chip in

    Belgian Mild

Finally brewed this! I’ve not done anything brewing related for months but finally got back on the horse today. Belgian mild was just a 10 litre batch on my stove top kit. 1kg Munich 750g Maris Otter 50g Special B 25g carafa special 2 200g homemade dark candi syrup 6g First Gold for 60 mins...

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

I did some chillie admin today, pricked out 6 jalapeno plants, 2 apaches and 1 chocolate habanero. 100% germination on year old jalapeño and Apache seeds, 10% on the chocolate habaneros. Oh well, they were bought on a whim by my wife and I did suggest we probably didn’t have the best setup for...

    The Mixed Fermentation Thread

I made what will be a Brett Dark Saison today, inspired by the Mad Fermentationist recipes and the brews @samale has done. It was my first brew day in months and enjoyed it immensely. 15 litres at 1.064, 32 calculated IBUs 2kg Munich 2kg Maris Otter 250g special B 100g carafa special II 15g...

    The Mixed Fermentation Thread

I’ve done a philly sour IPA and I’m actually really pleased with it. It soured quickly but attenuated slowly, it was 3 weeks before I dry hopped then cold crashed. Then things went south for some time and the “cold crash” turned into something more like lagering, it was 6 weeks before I bottled...

    Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury

If Fury goes in anywhere near the condition he was for the second Wilder fight, I don’t see how AJ can beat him. Fury is too fast for AJ to fight the way he did in beating Ruiz, and AJ can’t hit the way Wilder did in the drawn fight.

    Dried Cherries in beer

I had the Pilot chocolate and cherry stout recently and it was delicious. I’ve used dried cherries in a Flanders red and it’s worked fine. Don’t worry about rehydrating, but rinsing them in boiling water is a good idea to make sure any preservative coating is washed off. You will want to let...

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

I’ve got 2 jalapeno and one Apache plant overwintered, though I’m not yet convinced they’ve survived. Seeds going are more jalapeno and Apache and some chocolate habaneros. The latter are germinating pretty slowly but there’s signs of life. We’ve increased veg space generally quite a lot in the...

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

The BBC should’ve just posted a link to this thread!

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

Different person, I was asking the person who didn’t get charged duty

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

Yeh I know the principle, and in the case of ingredients which are freely available in the UK duty will probably have that effect because the government are clearly getting a double tax income (duty and VAT). I’m not an “all tax is theft” type but I come pretty close to it on the import duty/VAT...

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

It’s a tax. Some would say taxes are a scam of course, and in this case I don’t see that a 22% import duty is particularly defensible given that THBC will also be collecting VAT on the government’s behalf. Rather like the government are having their cake and eating it too, to coin a phrase.

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

How much was the order worth? Some of the stuff posted here suggests that under £135 will not be charged duty.

Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

Exactly this. I feel for THBC because it’s going to make life more difficult for them in the GB market unless they are able to establish themselves in NI as well, which itself will mean extra effort and cost.
